  1. Thanks Colin, I will try a Hornby decoder and see how I get on .
  2. Thanks guys, you’re right GS. further investigation shows it does just clip off .. I think I’ll need a micro chip too , the space is so limited… thanks again guys
  3. Hi guys, Two things, firstly any recommendations for which Dcc chip would fit this loco . And secondly how do I remove the body ? I have misplaced my maintenance sheet so any information would be gratefully accepted… many thanks
  4. Merry Christmas my friends and a Happy New year to all present ;and past members, who have left us a legacy that we will never forget…
  5. @chrissaf hi Chris, just an update; albeit almost 12 months old. These random point moves were causing me many a headache.. After many point motor , wire , switch and even control system changes I went back to the beginning and re read my many books on Dcc control . it would appear that the solution was staring me in the face but I didn’t think it applied to my layout . I had read on many occasions about bus wire filters, I should say “misread”. As the point was only 10ft. Away from my control panel I did think I needed them … But of course it has nothing to do with the distance of the malfunctioning point from the control panel , but the overall length of the bus wires , which in my case is just under 50 feet. Needless to say I have fitted the capacitor and resistor across both ends of the bus wires and since then no phantom changes.. It just goes to show how easily misunderstanding what we read can back fire. .. Again thanks for your input
  6. @Will Hay, ” spillage “ …that gives me a picture of your unit either overturned and left to leak out , or the unit stationary and leaking !! The thing to remember is that you’re not to put too much pressure on the pads . There is a screw to adjust pad pressure . All you need is for the pad to skim over the track . It’s not a short sharp abrasive action , it’s a gentle smooth flowing skim . So I would try lifting the pad pressure. And as for my points ;which are peco electro frog , never had a problem in either direction. I do feel you need to raise the pad pressure .. All the best .
  7. @Will Hay maybe overkill.. being retired I probably use it more than most .. The unit is part of a rake of wagons and I enjoy seeing it running around. I have a supply of pads pre cut and will change it whenever I think it’s necessary. If I’m honest the pads are dry a lot of the times just keeping my track clear of dust . It certainly is no hardship for the 47 to push it down sidings or pull it around the main lines. my layout is in a centrally heated spare bedroom so it doesn’t suffer from any unwanted elements . it most certainly doesn’t warrant that regularity as I’m sure you’ll find out , but I park it in a siding and latch it up during some running sessions.. I did see one somewhere that had been disguised as an oil tanker, it did look good …. Maybe one day ..
  8. Thanks 96RAF… I realised as much when I added DCC to a search open_mouthpersevere
  9. Thanks Roger, and sorry about that … I can see where I was going wrong . By reducing my words in the search criteria to the basic requirements I ended up with what I was looking for .. DOH… And actually clicking on the item brings up the posts I was looking for…. Simples … I’ll put it down to senility.. Thanks again thumbsup
  10. Hi guys , I am at a complete loss to find my way around the revamped site ..weary Prior to the revamp if I typed in the search box I was given a host of information through previous posts about the subject matter I was looking for grinning… Now I’m just given the choice to respond to unrelated posts … Please what am I doing wrong ….
  11. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Hornby for their excellent aftercare service. Three years ago I sent my Select back to them for the 1.5 upgrade, which they did and returned to me within a week for the cost of £15. Last week; after the initial phone call, I again returned my Select, this time for the 1.6 upgrade. It was returned a few days later upgraded and in perfect working order, with a covering letter saying no charge …. For me this was over and above my expectations, and certainly promotes them to the top in customer service … We’ll done Hornby …
  12. An excellent track cleaning system, I bought my CMX many years ago . And wouldn’t be without it. It came complete with a plastic syringe , spare rubber washers for the flow adjusters , a how to use leaflet, strips of corduroy to be cut to length and a small bottle of cleaning fluid ( now using 99.9 % isopropyl alcohol ) . I tend to run it weekly behind a class 47 . after about 20 mins. Of running it’s time to change the corduroy ready for next time and it always surprises me at the amount of dirt it picks up ..
  13. Thanks for your reply Chris. At the moment I am using the Prodigy Advance 2 and yes I use both DCC control and analogue switches ( old habits ). I will change the switch and also connect my power cab to the system, not at the same time of course. As you say it may well be a glitch in either the prodigy or a spuriously interpreted command with its address. Again my thanks.....Ray
  14. Hi guys , some help would be gratefully accepted. I am running a DCC layout with 20 cobalt ip digital turnouts , and electrofrog points . And I am in the process of fitting a control panel. But for some unknown reason one of my turnouts has decided to intermittently change direction. My first thought was a faulty motor , so I changed it .... but the new motor did exactly the same . Next I thought the wiring from the point motor to the panel was faulty, so I changed that .... problem still the same .. All that’s left is the turnout itself . Could that be the problem or have I missed something else ... The other points on my layout work fine.... If I had any hair I would certainly be pulling it out ....
  15. Many thanks gentlemen, I see where you are coming from. You hit the nail on the head Colin , it's my dcc controller that I am not happy with . Reverting back to past happiness is not the answer, and replacing all the wiring is not going to happen. I must admit though Colin I do like the twin nob control of the Elite. At least you can flick from one running loco to another without taking your eyes off the layout to search through a recall list !! my points are controlled by Dpdt switches through cobalt digital ip motors on a separate power source, I too like the old school switches and levers . again my thanks for averting what would have been a nightmare..... I will take a closer look at the Elite though, I know it's not everybody's cup of tea , but then again what is ?
