I would love to see the likes of Accurascale, KR or Rapido make something in TT:120. There is no worry about DCC compatability as the pin out will work for HM7000 or other’s DCC decoders. Out of the box, the Hornby HM7000 equipped locos operate immediately as DCC decoder locos. If you so desire, you can replace the HM7000 decoder with another brand. If all you want is one HM7000 loco, all you need to do is change the power supply for your DC layout. New manufacturers could simply offer DC locos as DCC ready with space and socket, but Hornby would need to offer a sound profile for a loco they are not manufacturing, if you wanted use their HM7000 system. Other manufacturers will help grow TT:120. What say you?

Like many, have been anxiously awaiting this loco since the day it was announced. Received the Prince Of Wales SS today, Wednesday. Parcel sent on Saturday from UK to USA. Delivery time of five days. Smooth transaction by Hornby. There was no interruption to personal financial data, but if there was, it can be easily changed on the billing page. Along with address change you can add an alternate financial source.

My card was charged earlier this week for R3983SS. Today (Friday) received email notice it will be shipped next Tuesday. Eagerly awaiting a test run.

FYI - Purchased a new TT:120 Club membership today. Could not find any mechanism to renew. Believe the 15% discount was only for the initial/introductory membership. The new membership has the enhanced points offer. If one has the initial (15% discount) membership, it may stay in force past October, to a one year anniversary, but not sure about that. My initial membership expires October 10 and the new one started yesterday. Hornby gave me 15% discount on the ROW TT:120 Club membership, which was paid for with Reward Points. Simple and painless. I believe membership shows support. It can only help all of us.

Believe the pictures of the class 08 diesels depict them correctly. All three Hornby models have louvered slots on the front of the body, just behind the radiator. My two Era 7 Blue models have a yellow band across this area and at first glance it would appear to be a ladder, but it is not. Believe actual ladders on the class 08 nose were thin narrow ones that stood proud of the body and continued over the top. In TT scale this would possibly be something like fine wire. I have no preference of conceptual drawing or actual model photo. After modeling in HO/OO gauge for years, I find the Hornby TT scale models have great detail and excellent finish. Experience tells me what to expect.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how to renew the TT:120 Club membership? Will it be a straight purchase of new membership or will Hornby advise you to hit the renew button (figuratively)? Thanks!

My recent purchase of The Easterner came with a poor running William Whitelaw. The poor running was attributable to the front bogie. First thing wrong and quite obvious, was the right hand wheel on the front axle of the lead bogie was not not square on the axle and would oscillate. Physically moved it back to square with a right angle plier and checked gauge. It looked correct but the derailments still occurred. Second thing wrong was an interference caused by the front bogie rubbing against the streamlined cowling of the body. A quick fix was to remove the flange guard from the front of the bogie. Removed one screw and the part came off. The binding of the bogie against the cowling in a curve would cause the rear axle of the front bogie to lift in the air and then the front axle geometry was wrong and it would derail. Had to get eyes to track level to find this out. The loco now runs as it should with no problems whatsoever. Will the flange guard ever go back on? Don’t miss it, so it will most likely be quite a while before a solution is explored. Have six locos and two were sent back to Hornby. They did a great job of replacement for one and repair for the other. Probably William Whitelaw should have been returned, also, but the expense is just too great from the US to the UK. Hope this experience helps someone.

Happy to hear this info was helpful. At first thought, N scale signal sounds small but as Rallymatt said, N scale items can be a bit oversized. Contacted Dapol for specifications on the signal types. Converting millimeters to tenths showed these signals to be in the twenty foot scale height range. Have been very happy with this choice for the home terminal and junction. Possibly others will make TT:120 signals and there will be more choices in the future. Hope so. My layout has a goods terminal adjacent to the passenger terminal. To leave the goods tracks, shunting signals were required. My choice has been the DCC Concepts 3/2 light low level ground signal. Yes they are ‘OO’ gauge, but they don’t appear overtly over sized. Just thought you might like to know that.

Back in March, 2023, started a TT:120 layout and the use of signals was one consideration. After some consideration for height, the choice was made to use the Dapol N Scale semaphores. For me, this proved to be an acceptable size signal to use in TT:120. There are always certain expectations when considering a working model like this. My choice was focused on the quality of the play value and in my opinion these signals are impressive. Their size appears appropriate to me and other visitors, who are always impressed with the mechanical operation of the semaphore blade. Are they two scale feet too short? Not important to me. Do they satisfy my desire to see operational semaphores that look to have a prototypical size? Yes, they do. In the end, I recommend the Dapol N scale semaphores for use with TT:120 Here are a few pictures to compare the size of signal and loco.

Thank you Sailing - Fish - Air Force Man! The link is most comprehensive and is exactly what I am looking for. As you say, 96RAF, it will be interesting to see how the steam equipped locos appear in operation. Building a TT:120 layout, but, do have a 'OO' steam equipped Prince of Wales on order.

Looking through past comments and cannot find advice on how to set the steam exhaust synchronization using the HM7000 app. It appears that both the A3 and A4 locos I have produce a steam exhaust rate at three speed rates. My first reaction was to think that is just the way it is. Several visitors to my layout have pointed out that the steam exhaust rates are way off when compared to the side rod movement. I understand this but do not know how to change the rate of steam exhaust sound. Would appreciate it if anyone could help or possibly point me in the right direction.

Received my Easterner Sound Fitted set today. On the case was the number 31 of 440.

As has been said many times, the pre-order process is simply part of the method for acquiring items, today. Understanding this, when the Hornby R3836 2MT was first announced, a pre-order was made immediately. Have read that development is now moving along and the model release is not that far off. Finally! But wait, Hornby sent me a notice that the pre-order was successfully cancelled. What? That certainly didn’t happen on my end. After years of waiting, the order was cancelled. Has anyone else experienced this? Have contacted the Customer Care Team, but have not heard a word.

The locos are all fitted with the blanking plate for DC operation. They all perform perfectly with a straight DC controller. When these locos are placed on a track controlled by the Digitrax Zephyr, that unit gets addressed as 00 and the loco should operate but instead the Zephyr sees it as a short circuit. If the blanking plug is pulled out the short goes away. For a test, the Zephyr was connected to a piece of HO gauge track and I ran a Hornby Sentinel on it with no problem. again used the OO address. My guess is this a Digitrax problem but they were contacted and I was told there was a problem with the Hornby socket. I don’t believe that but have no other recourse at the moment. Thank you all for your input.

It seems to me all TT:120 locos that are DCC ready are NX18 socket equipped, so believe this is the right place for the discussion. Hornby NX18 locos either come with a blank plug or a decoder. The socket is in the tender and if the loco is simply a DC loco, there is a blank plug in the socket. That blank plug is a circuit board needed for conventional DC operation. A NX18 decoder fits in the same socket and Hornby makes their version which operates with the HM 7000 Blu-tooth system. The Digitrax Zephyr should operate these conventional TT:120 locos, but it does not. The Digitrax unit sees these locos as a dead short. Possibly through the components on the blank board plugged into the socket.
