  1. Hi all thanks for the info and what shops to look at. Ill be checking some out for sure. I just prefer now that we can to go visit a shop instead of online. As mentioned im looking forward to when model exhibitions start again. Ill be looking out for some to go visit. I live in Hampshire but distance isnt an issue. Cheers for the info all :)
  2. Cheers ive heard alton one is good. Not far from me actually about 45 drive Ill take a nose next week :)
  3. Cheers Peterborough isn't too far, ill check it out :)
  4. Hi all Just wondered if any of you know of a decent sized model railway shop. Especially south of england or as far as the midlands I know Gaugemaster has one which I visited recently its not bad but quite expensive even compared to my local shop. I know Hattons is huge but that's way up north and a bit far to go in a day. Just be nice to go have a browse at a decent sized store and part with some savings :) Cheers
  5. Depending on how big a train/ carriages 1st radius should be ok. Some say differently but some youtubers have proven trains run. I have no issues running a 3 car blue rapier Although it annoyingly only comes as a 3 coach set and no other coaches can be purchased as the couplers are not usual hornby ones. My HST ran ok with 4 carriages and 3 carriages only issue i noticed was the over hang of carriages meant near on getting caught on the platform edges
  6. Having only recntly started the hobby myself after getting a Blue rapier set for christmas, im still slowly building the layout, track is down and have planned out where stations etc are going. I have two young children so days off are 90% spent as family time but i do get a few hours to do stuff on my layout. Everytime I get on the layout i always think to myself is that all ive done the last few months. But also think its not to be rushed. It is very addictive and I've spent a fair bit already on things, locos (pre owned but both have started running awful and oil hasn't helped so will save for new in future) carriages etc, track and so on, also a few cars and buildings etc. Not to mention a newer better controller (gaugemaster ) I don't really drink much and don't smoke and my main hobbies are train and plane spotting which is basically free (free or discounted rail travel) and just fuel to drive to airport locations. Its a good thing to of gotten into in my opinion and it helps me focus and forget about all the negativity in the world currently i just focus on my railway. I've worked out I've spent a good £500-600 or more so far on things. Biggest regret is buying pre owned locos via a auction site and finding out after a few hours running they are now running awful. And as many say its your layout your railway so do as you please. Run what trains you like. And enjoy
  7. Is this a post about model railway or a bloomin political one? There in my opinion is a time and place to be political and rant and a model rail forum isnt the place. All I'll say is. Make it in UK for say £15 each with high overheads etc flog it for £150 produce in china etc for £1 sell it for £70 no brainer.. Just look at why 99% face coverings are produced in asia 100 for £1 or made in uk ones 100 for £5
  8. my 2021 club loco is on its way back to hornby. After the burn out issues. Took them a number of days to get back to me but funny that soon as i reached out to them via a social media response i had a phone call from hornby. They requested it sent back to be investigated as they are concerned as to why it burnt out.
  9. Hi all. So I’ve just run my 2021 Hornby collectors club loco for only the 2nd time. And it smoked badly and basically now doenst run and seem the motor has burned out. Smells awful... Running two separate tracks and trains on a Gaugemaster twin controller (analogue). my blue rapier seems fine and still runs well. Is this an issue with the loco itself? It’s basically brand new.. cheers luke
  10. its not a bad loco. It runs quite well. And considering some shops have a similar loco with just a different number on this side, on pre order for around £38-40 its not bad paying £35 for membership
  11. Hi tony cheers for the reply and info I'm using power clips to power the inner loop it's a twin control cheers luke
  12. Cheers tony. i haven’t put any on that bit ill do that. with regards to controller it just has forward and reverse and speeed setting knob thats all cheers
  13. Cheers for the reply, how I know if made by mainline ? All says is hornby underneath. Is there any easy fix for these issues or is it a case of me writing them off as useless ? cheerz luke
  14. Hi again all. Instead of posting a new topic will reply via here as its linked... So my two class 43s and my Hornby collectors loco all seem to be running slow even on full speed. In reference to my 43s they have been oiled but still make a massive groaning noise. May just save up and get a new/newer 43 and avoid ebay.. the Hornby collector loco runs smoother than the 43s but just seems very slow, im using a Gaugemaster twin D. Also to add for some reason the 43s stop on the power track if running at slow speed, the other loco runs fine on all the track. cheers luke
  15. Ah thats good to know. And as many say. Rule number 1.. :) Just glad to be having some trains running, its amazing how easy it is to get addicted and carried away with the hobby. cheers for the feedback :)
