  1. As Ratch has mentioned, Matchbox got there first in braille scale. Tamiya very early on hit the market with the SAS jeep and LRDG truck. Italeri also release the European theatre SAS jeep. All are still nice models for their age. Tamiya I believe have new tooled the LRDG truck and so many other companies now do British and other special forces vehicles. Hopefully though we'll see some more post war vehicles from them.
  2. Try Accurate Armour as they do some nice post war figure. David Parkins at Firing Line does as well.
  3. Hi all, I've just got hold of the Brengun P.E set to upgrade my bomber resupply set, which I'm sure will make a superb kit set even better. The one thing that is really griping me is, the motorbike on the box is highly detailed compared to the one in the box. Does anyone know if this a commercially available upgrade or just some fantastic modelling skills.
  4. Very interesting Ratch. It's somewhat a piece of personal history as kids we used too cycle up to this airfield and play around up there. We used to find all sorts of stuff up there. We found some 50.cal shells in an old hut that was hidden in a spinney. We all took two each unlinked the empty belt strap and reported the rest to the farmer. One returning home, we in our youthful wisdom decided to fire off one of the shells. So with poor ear guards on and the rest fingers in their ears, the shell firm in a vice I struck the end with a spindle punch. We didn't expect what happened. Several walls, our new porcelain outside privy, two of our speedway bikes all died in an explosive manner. It was finally stopped by a very old English oak tree. Thankfully no one was hurt by it, apart from us all taking damage to our hearing and the absolute trashing we had of all our fathers and some of the neighbours. I have to add it is the only time I have ever heard my mam swear. It never stopped us cycling to the many airfields and army dumps, bomb sites and downed aircraft sites that surrounded us. But that's another story or several.
  5. I have a twin door display cabinet in my front room. I actually don't get many comments on the military pieces but my figure shelf gets a few comments. The general opinion is it keeps me quiet. One of my daughters boyfriend absolutely loves looking at them, but does the head down and clam up when I come in. Still nice to know he likes them. Yes dear is my wife's usual comment/response, apart when she sees the videos of her doing the sound effects for a Me Bf109 with her snoring. I'm just waiting for a Merlin tone and then I'm getting the Lancaster out the cabinet. I can't print here what she says.
  6. I decided to go for one of the bundle deals. The 1/35 box, I have to say it is a massive saving and a great deal. Five kits for under £100. Three German, two American/allies. I already have two of the kits, the Tiger and the GMC M10, not a problem though as the M10 is going to be converted into a Mk1 M10 Achillies. The Tiger is going to have the turret number of the greatest tank ace 303 Kurt knispel. So, if you are into armour and haven't got this bundle, do so.
  7. Even in 1/48 or 1/72 the variants would be great subject matter. I can't help but imagine the level of detail and modelling that would be involved in a 1/24 version. It would be epic.
  8. It would be a very nice kit. I know there's large scale one out there but it's rare and expensive. A 1/24 Swordfish would be an insane size.
  9. Hi Ratch Very nice collection and great project. Have you added the Bolton Paul Defiant to your collection as it has markings for R.A.F Wittering. Wittering has a personal history for me as we used to cycle up there ( when kids ) to watch the Harriers and others takeoff from there. We also used to risk the wrath of the R.A.F regiment by sifting through the undergrowth near the perimeter fence looking for model kits that used to get dumped by people heading for new postings. We hit gold many a time but also had to run like the wind from the Regiment and the White mice.
  10. I know I've called for this before but a 1/24 Bolton Paul Defiant would be amazing, with the level of detail Airfix are now achieving I'm sure this would blow everyone away. I think some 1/72 conversion packs would be a nice idea, the Avro Manchester and Lincoln. Others could include the Tall boy and Grandslam bombs, bays and ground trolly sets. Some Mosquito conversions of all Mks would be super. Perhaps a Bolton Paul Defiant target tug. Some larger scale turrets would make for interesting modelling and display pieces.
  11. Some very nice work there. I'm looking forward to seeing this finished.

  13. A B24 Liberator with 100 squadron markings. A Bedford RL GS truck A re-release of the Bedford Mk4. Infact all the old JB models range. A 1/35 Austin Champ Another re-release, the Bedford QL Gun Portee.
  14. Hi Matthias Matador Models make the Antar tank transporter Mk1, the Mk2 as well as 1/76 Scammell Commander is on the way. Paul
  15. Hi Richard As Ratch has mentioned Universal carriers were the same inside as out. You could apply a slightly light shade inside just to make it more aesthetically pleasing. If you want to add a bit more to them, there's a guy on Etsy that I deal with who prints some very nice miniatures. I have just bought some Aussie Matilda riders from him, they are superb. 3Djonson is his shop name, great subjects and prices.
  16. Hi John the Pom Thanks for commenting. Yes, I managed to remove it without breaking it. I used some wide tipped tweezers with two blobs of Bluetac on the ends to stop it pinging across the room. Once gripped cutters were employed to make the snip. Lovely work on your Bf 109. I have some Romanian decals somewhere, so one will most certainly be having those added. It's all about fun and enjoyment. Paul
  17. I hope so. Working on some of the Aces might be an idea.
  18. Just an update. I have just managed to get my hands on a copy of the Airfix Modelling R.A.F Vehicles by Gerald Scarborough, along with some Airfix and Matchbox vintage kits.
  19. Hi Andy No I haven't. I shall give it a whirl thank you.
  20. Thank you Randall, There are few others I would like to do, marking for the Polish campaign and pre Battle Of Britain. Just have to finish my B.o.B plane display first.
  21. Hi all I'm in need of some scale drawings of a Commer Q2 2 ton tractor unit. I know the Airfix book Modelling RAF Vehicles included it as well as the Airfix magazine, issue 26 or 29. Is there anyone out there who has a copy who wouldn't mind photocopying or putting a pdf file together for me.
  22. Here's my offering of the Me Bf109e starter kit. What an amazing little kit, a joy to build every step of the way. It's not often you get engine detail in a kit of this scale. I've bought another one to have a go at some engine detailing.
  23. Hi All Thank you for your wise words. I did see the two sale in the USA they are fetching a premium. Three figures does seem very steep to my on reflection. I will most likely look around for another " period " ship or a more ancient one, Roman/Greek perhaps? Again thanks a lot guys.
  24. Hi all, I've been toying with the idea of building a sailing ship. The older the better. I have offered an old Airfix kit, HMS Prince 1670. I know it is a rare kit but the asking price is a ton, is this to much ? Can anyone help.
  25. The Me Bf109 is a beautiful little kit to build. Just finishing one off, loved every minute of the build.
