  1. OK I expect howls of derision on this request, things like why bother etc. Does anyone have a CD for the C8310 Sport World equipment? All costs paid. Please contact me if you have anything. Regards Baz
  2. Hendy I have found that the best way to figure out this info is to go on websites like Pendle and look in the spares section, things like braids, motors and pinions are used across a reasonable range of Scalextric cars. The good websites are quite helpful at narrowing this down to manufacturing periods as well. I buy second hand cars of similar age to you and with a little bit of TLC they are usually superb value for money. B.
  3. John I think I understand your question and problem. The track section on which you circled the power connections is the classic track that was used prior to the powerbase style of connections. With the track that you show the power was applied to the track by two flying leads coming from a jumble of wires around the controllers and transformers, on the end of the flying leads was a rectangular plug that fitted into your circled areas. Your powerbase is from the late series of classic track, my guess is that in your collection of track there will be a section of track that has those connection sockets in line to match your power base. I had that same powerbase as you sometime ago but the classic track all went missing in a house move, I think we gave priority to the Sport track. B.
  4. I would like to make a few points about car grip, the grip levels offered by Scalextric cars has gone up massively in the 50 years that I have raced. The change to the Sport track and combined with the magnatraction cars has made Scalextric a superb home slot car system. For a few years I raced on 1/32 scale permanent hard tracks, I learned the importance of preparation during that racing. All slot cars are sensitive to grip and what seems like a nice clean track can be quite dusty, the car then picks up the dust on the rear tyres which has a very detrimental effect upon grip. I clean the track with a painters tack rag or car body panel wipe on a lint free cloth, I then clean the tyres, either by revving up on some 180 grit paper or doing a solvent wipe on the tyres. Pay attention to the braids, I like to tease the end of the braids out with a pin to start with (a little lube like GT 85 helps the braid tease out) and then us a very small wire brush to really get the little bits of wire in the braid all heading in the same lay pattern, I then put a couple of tiny drops of oil on the braid. Paying attention to the above can easily turn a 3 second lap time driven really well into a 2.25 second lap. The differences in performance from one style of car to another could be down to many things but on the 1/32 cars on the hard track we would spend a lot of time fiddling around with small weights to assist car balance. Some Scalextric cars are going to be better in this respect than others and will carry a more advantageous weight distribution. Slot cars are sensitive !!
  5. Andy I would prefer them with the tread, Pendle don't have the tyres in stock but they can see that the tires are in stock at Scalextric. I will try Jadlam. Thanks Baz
  6. Can anyone tell me where to get GT40 tyres and ideally a part number as well. the cars come from a set (GT40 Sport) from around 2003. On the Scalextric spares site I can see the whole rear axle assembly but not just the tyres, any ideas? The image below is of the complete axle assembly lifted from the Scalextric website. Thanks Baz
  7. Chris I have issue 44, first copy I have bought, got it a local WH Smith's about a week ago, has a blue Lola on the cover. Baz
  8. Old Guy I have recently resurrected my Scalextric RMS, I can get it to work well with this USB to serial adaptor. USB to Serial Adapter FTDI - Pro Gold Plated 90cm RS232 Cable WINDOWS 7 - 10 UK | eBay I had no luck using the type with a Prolific chip set, but this one with FTDI chipset works a treat and you can force the driver to be COM1 or COM2 as RMS cannot search for any higher com port numbers. I had it work well with a WIN 10 laptop or an old XP laptop, since there will be no updates for RMS as it is around 16 years old, I will just stick using the redundant XP laptop, they are well matched to one another !!
