  1. AAAAHHHH! Thanks Chris! I understand perfectly now. This is exactly what I want to build, thanks for making this. Dan
  2. I have read Chrissaf's excellent sticky post about getting started and adding track packs. I just have one question. I was reading the section where an entire inner loop is added and an extra controller is added to the inner loop which is perfect - this is exactly what I want to build. Insulating fish plates are used on the points to stop the two circuits joining when the pints are connected. Again, I totally get that. However, in figure 13, the two loops are connected by two R8201 link wires at the top. Is this a typo? If we are trying to keep the circuits separate I don't understand why they are there? Thanks, Dan
  3. That was a joke, as the lyrics in the theme song include "no income tax, no VAT"
  4. Just had another look and the £235 unit is one of the new ones for the digital controllers etc. which would explain the price
  5. Thanks for the replies, I've saved those stock numbers and I'll keep scouring ebay! I've found a formation guide on a suppliers website using the new stock, it mentions coach B, coach C etc. My coaches don't have that level of detail on, I also saw just the engine and rear carriage in my local model shop of the Intercity 225 for £235. I can't imagine this set retailed close to £235 back when it came out in 1992, and obviously it comes with track and two carriages. For the sake of my curiosity more than anything, do Hornby do two levels of detail in their models? Like are the trains in the sets lacking in finer detail like carriage numbers etc. (although still very good, I am so impressed with this train) compared to the locos and carriages you can buy separately, which presumably are more aimed at adult collectors? Thanks, Dan
  6. Thanks. The jargon buster looks especially useful! Dan
  7. Hi, I've just bought a 1992 Intercity 225 kit which I'm looking forward to building a nice layout with my son and playing with it with him. I've heard you can get a variety of extra carriages for most trains (e.g: the buffet car.) Is there a good site for looking this sort of thing up, as I'm interested in extending the train. Thanks, Dan P.S: Below is a test run after getting the train out of the box!
  8. Hi, I've just seen a listing for a big bundle of track, but the seller has listed it as "all nickel-silver not steel" What's the difference? Is there stuff I need to know when buying second-hand track? Thanks, Dan
  9. Hi, I have recently picked up an Intercity 225 set, and I am looking forward to getting into playing with this with my son. I've been looking at various things online and in shops but to be honest most of this world is a mystery to me. Is there a book like "model trains for dummies" or a good website that explains all the ling and abbreviations (e.g: DVT), walks you through maintenance, designing layouts etc. ? Thanks, Dan
