  1. FYI. I reported this issue over a month ago. Hornby said they reported to the development team, today they came back saying issue is fixed... And to check the store. Now the app isn't even in the store unless you use that link above. Anyway, still same error, so then Chris at Hornby asked my version again, and again have been told it's being sent to the development team. Bit worrying that they let themselves down by not testing properly on the recent versions. If it helps, I'm on an OPpO android v13
  2. Hello 96RAF - this is a DC loco. Sorry. Should have said.
  3. actually closer inspection of the cab appears that previous owner fitted one; its really quite good! is there a standard approach to do this i.e. is there any complicated electronics or just fitting a bulb to the power collection? I'd probably do a few more as it looks great.
  4. Hi everyone, hope you are well. Just doing a run through of my inventory and noticed that the J94 that I have doesn't seem to match its service sheet as it has a flickering firebox (which is brilliant actually)... but its not in any of the j94 sheets I can see. Is this a previous owner mod or just an undocumented edition? model number R3025 and running number 8009. no issue i'm just inquisitive :) many thanks
  5. Hey all 👋 As you may have seen I acquired an R2425, good runner until I noticed the dreaded mazac signs. Bought from a charity so not taking her back. Problem I have is that the motor retainer isn't fastened right enough and so the gear slips on the worm gear and disengages. I tried to screw in deeper but just as I thought it had fixed it the screw hole broke off. See pic. So, how do I go about creating a solid screw hole here? Anyone done this? You can see in the pic that I have a metal screw point from an old class 31 body, I intended on using this with super glue and then try to find a suitable screw that would tighten it down nicely. Any advice on best way to secure the fitting / create the screw hole? Thanks in advance
  6. ditto on the class 08 - I got the R2425 BR 0 6 0 class 08 Saint Rollox No 08568; thought i'd got a bargain until I opened her up and found shes yet another mazac victim. We really need to be careful with anything in the 2000-2005 region don't we! She was wired as DCC but I took that away; filed down some of the expansion and she was able to run for a couple of hours - but what I hadn't spotted was the worm hadn't clearly been flush with the gear as its worn the gear at the top - so it's going to be in the workshop a while :( My only positive feeling is at least it was to a charity that I paid the money to. Contacted hornby for replacement S4581 chassis and Matt says there are none... so that kinda limits my options.
  7. Hahaha 🤣 nice to see I'm not the only one wondering wth they are doing. Surely they must consider how customers are going to actually store them. I think I'll try and find out from Sam which he uses. Just seems bonkers, and with a proper understanding of their users maybe they could make life a lot easier for us, and ellocoloco specifically with his wife ;)
  8. We have an old castle class Hornby and she happily goes around our tiny radius oval from one of the 90s sets. If I'm honest she looks a bit daft though :)
  9. Hi everyone, been awhile since last post. Since then I've gone and purchased a plastic storage tower from 'the Range' thinking I was clever... Only to find that only older Hornby boxes pre 2000 seem to fit, after looking around a bit I'm struggling to find any of these plastic towers big enough to house the locos, carriages in their box... Which is what I want to do. 1. Have any of you come across a cheap storage tower that allows for the 38-40cm depth now required? 2. Is there a reason why they changed them to be so ridiculously long? Lol 🤣
  10. Hey Roger, yeh I know about that, wasn't done on purpose. Oddly enough it seemed like nothing happened when I hit submit, and eventually it said submitted successfully the second time. Back to my loco tho. A fine job so far I think. Any advice out there on alternatives to the motor mount appreciated 👍
  11. --Update-- "photo to come" I managed to remove the spindle cap ring from the front bogie and get it reattached the_hornsI used a pair of clippers to take off one corner of the ring as the IPA soak did little to remove the pesky thing; I basically got bored and decided to break it off and find an alternative cap using an old pinion gear or something. Luckily for me, the cap ring on this R2829 was actually metal; so when I clipped it I now have a partial ring that actually fits nicely back on to prevent the bogie from falling out. Hoorah!! I've had to re-solder everything!! face_with_rolling_eyesThis is one fiddly model!! my soldering iron and solder are cheap and so this was a really painful experience. all wires eventually fell off the pickups as I was handling it; including the ones on the front bogie which are tiny. I've now re-soldered it all and removed the PCB that was in place opting to connect everything direct to the motor. All tested and working beautifully. trying to find alternative to buying the motor housing...I really do not want to buy a spare; I which there was a replacement for this. Surely Hornby have replacements... apparently not! only option appears to be the brass one from a well known spares shop. Does anyone have any bright ideas to fashion one? I was thinking maybe a few sheets of thin plastic could suffice; and hold the gear in place but I would have to glue it and the motor which would make life hard if I needed to service my dodgy soldering. cheers A
  12. late look through posts for me - happy new year :) on this, I had this white powder on the class 31 - it was after I used T-Cut; it's possible that the owner tried a variety of other methods prior to your advice. A decent wash of fairy washing up might clean this film off (no liability accepted ;) )
  13. tbh I tend to contact them if they are ridiculous even if i'm not buying it; sometimes they don't realise that they typed it wrong where they are quickly typing in the ad. Judging by the matching carriage pack being £124... could be he meant £125 as starting price...
  14. Thanks Colin, I need to find something that dissolves super glue I think the previous owner has decided they would never need to service the loco 😜... Only other option I have is going to be to file away enough to get it through and then maybe fashion up a similar piece to the brass on yours. Which model is yours? I have to say, the build quality and general design of the workings of this loco are pretty poor, looks great on top but really that bogie connection didn't need to be like that, and the way the pickups were placed were always going to end in issues with servicing. Anyway. Nearly got her done. I'll wait until after Xmas. Have a good one. Ande
