This kit offers the possibilities of folded or extended wings. My choice is for the folded configuration. Some scalpel work is required before the centre part of the upper wing can be assembled. Here it is dry fitted.
Several steps are now omitted, and work resumes with the Pegasus II M2 radial engine.

I'd spray the nose white, mask up and spray the red band, removed the masking and overspray with a white mist.
If painting with a hairy stick, paint the white, pick a pale red or mix red and white to get the right shade and carefully paint the stripe. Use a long bristled signwriting brush to get the line with a steady hand.

I’ve been concerned about the front turret position. The only picture of a Carpetbagger B-24H is Miss Fitts taking off from Harrington and her turret has been replaced by a plain glazing. I have nothing to make a former to plunge mould with and considered just not fitting the guns in the turret but thought this gave an inaccurate profile. Then I had a brainwave. I have some H2S blisters left over from old Lancaster kits and cut one with a razor saw.
This fitted nicely into the aperture of the turret position. Not absolutely accurate but more realistic, I think.
I couldn’t resist brushing Humbrol Matt Black over the airframe; I‘ve always considered myself more of a painter than a builder with the plastic being my canvas to work upon.

Who are you asking? Which red band?

I use a cocktail stick to re-open the hole, which can become blocked with dried paint.

Thanks Tim, I painted and fitted the superchargers to the engine cowlings then turned to the four Pratt & Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp engines. Open and closed gills are offered as alternate parts. As I understand it, the gills would be open when the engine was at its working temperature, to keep it cool. With the engine shut down the gills would be closed. My aircraft will be posed firmly on the ground, inactive.

What other Hornby brands do you collect/model?
Apart from Airfix, I use Humbrol paints. I collect Corgi cars, re-acquiring ones I had. I have lots of Hornby railway stuff from the 80s/90s in my loft, but it has become neglected, as has my son's Scalextric collection.
So what do you participate in?

I went to several Trade Toy Fairs there in the 80s. it was an impressive place with good accessibility. I didn't go because I had other commitments that day, but the car parking charges seem very high.

I painted the propeller tips with Humbrol Acrylic 24 Matt Trainer Yellow and the blades with Humbrol Acrylic 33 Matt Black. The inside of the upper wing that forms the wheel well was brush painted, and then the wings were assembled.
I decided to cut in with black in the hope of making masking easier at the later stage.
I also painted the nose of the fuselage black, and then marked out the lettering and outline of the ‘Screwball’ nose art with my ruling pen, freehand.

I assembled the engine, but did not fix it to the fuselage, I will paint and decal before that.
I then fitted the tail, rudder, and ailerons.

The gaps looked really bad, but when filled with plastic putty they are less noticeable.
The tail went together much easier.

All the new toolings are a very tight on tolerances. A layer of paint can affect the fit. I have yet to work out how to avoid it other than not to paint internal stuff.

Thanks. They were both released in 1975. I understand that the sculptor would make a master in 1/12 and this was pantographed down to 1/32 and/or 1/76. The poses do look identical.

I fitted the instrument panel and winch under the nose panel and then fixed that in position.
A smear of filler was used on the joints.

You could try pricking the decals with a sharp blade or pin and flood with gloss varnish.

Some more info on the Carpetbagger Liberators. The oxygen equipment was removed, and plywood flooring fitted to aid movement of supplies. Gee British hyperbolic navigational aids were fitted though these were later updated to Loran US equipment. Rebecca/Eureka equipment was also used. Before joining the fuselage, I added a plywood panel over the Joe Hole.
As expected, I’m having serious trouble getting the fuselage to meet.

I agree @oldmodeller and Airfix have issued such sets many times. Each time the purists knock them as little more than toys because they're not accurate/old kits/not up to todays standards/wrong scale - get my drift. Plus, if Airfix had wanted to do it, they would be in the catalogue. I would imagine that their production schedule is at capacity (it would be if I was running it), so I think this opportunity has been missed.

The interior canopy frame was picked out with a brush.
To have folded wings a slot must be made in each of the upper wing parts. The instructions recommend doing this with a file, but I’m happy to use a scalpel.
The upper and lower wings were assembled, and the floats.
Next will be airbrushing the under surfaces.
