Auggie
I just purchased this track plan stencil for Arnold tracks. It says it is 1:5 scale. How do I use this template? I'm hoping to build a layout that is 3.5' x 4'.Could someone please explain to me how I can design the track layout using this tool. Thanks! walkingthedog
My guess is get a piece of paper one fifth the size of 3' 6" x 4', might be advisable to go metric, design the layout on it using the stencil then buy the required pieces of track. RB51
Hi Auggie - welcome to the forum. Are you talking about something like this? R- /media/tinymce_upload/fcf7f3cb64e951adff4fa9c9136ade40.jpg
walkingthedog
That’s what I think it is. That one is 1:5 scale.
RB51
I've never used anything like that but presumably Auggie you could draw your intended layout on the board you have made - or - draw and cut out track piece templates and place them on the board. The latter one seems a lot of faff, but does give you some flexibility. You would need some accurancy in drawing and cutting as well. R-
walkingthedog
It’s only 1:5 scale so you would need a board 1/5th the size you want. Use the template to fit that, then buy the track piece you have used to build the full size version. Lot of faffing about in my view but each to his own. 😆

walkingthedog
And it's N gauge so the bits are going to be minuscule.
Auggie
Thanks Gents! Very helpful.Yes, Roger, it is a template like that but for Arnold track which I have already started to collect.I have made a small grid to match the 1:5 scale of the template, which I hope will work out.The dimensions are 9.6 inches by 7.2 inches which should scale up to my finished alyout of 48" x 30".Boy, I forgot how much learning there is to be had with these tiny trains!Cheers! walkingthedog
Or you could just start laying track and see what grows. Much simpler.
