Superstox
Ok, so as a collector of 1978-1980 sets i have come across something i have not seen before. A wooden box edition of the 1980 500 set . I believed it to be maybe homemade and purpose built however the lid and ithe box is surrounding appears to be Scalextric branding .can anyone who actually knows tell me about this set . The track etc is all 1980 500 spec but its packaging !!??? Even the cars have a polistirine base which fits perfectly the lid and the outside of the box is black . Its branded scalextrix 500 and has 4 european flags and that is it . I have tried to upload pics but it says fole type not allowed .
Andy P.
Pictures have to approved by the forum administrator (I am just the moderator). It may take a while...JPG should be OK as file format. Also make sure they are not too large...
woodcote
Hi Superstox - welcome to the forum! I have looked in 'Scalextric - the Ultimate Guide' by Adrian Norman & Roger Gillham. I can't find any mention of a special wooden-boxed 500 set. As you say, I suspect it is a one-off hand-crafted box, probably using branding and packaging that was available at the time. A skilled carpenter would probably produce something rather wonderful that has survived the past forty years far better than original cardboard box. Some pictures would be great to see.
