HMS ark royal help with painting

i bought the model 1/600 at a model shop, but the instructions to paint it arnt very in depth,7 colours in total but when painting the small boats it tell me to just use 27* sure there's more detail to it than that. 
iv done other aircraft before and they have sometimes told me to paint somthing before finnishing the model, how ever these instructions are completly different and vague compared to what iv done before.
any insight as to why or what i should do would be apprciated

Hi George, witing without puctuation and capital letters makes you post difficult to read for us old guys. All kit painting instructions are greatly simplified (to not deter the novice modeller). Its best to do on-line searches for additional information on any subject you're modelling. I haven't built this kit for a long time (so long ago that I didn't keep records of the paints I used). I do remember that my research revealed that the flight deck was painted green. Good luck with your research.

The instructions were produced in 1966 when the kit was launched. For the boats I went for a lighter shade of grey (though I can't recall which) with tan for the bits that might be wooden or tarpaulin. Some other parts were different greys to provide a little variation.

Given how much the paintwork will weather while sailing you can be creative. Though the basic theme is Dark Grey Hull, Dark Green Deck.

As to whether the hull was "just grey" or a more creative Measure (like HMS Belfast (Airfix kit correctly for period modelled, and actual vessel backdated from the final refit)) will depend on the vessel's actual assignment at the period you model.

Since I mentioned Belfast, that Measure applies to ships escorting Arctic convoys to the USSR. Plain grey hulls do apply for vessels used in the Mediterranean where Ark Royal was stationed when sunk though. I couldn't say what camouflage was applied for hunting the Bismark beyond that it would be whatever applied to the ships' normal duties/stations.
