Hornby -Jouef HJ 2176 TSO C61034 Stalling problems

I have recently bought one of these new for my SNCF layout but find that it appears to stall on a certain part of my track where my other locos have no problem. I have one of the earlier French made models of this loco from Jouef which runs perfectly over this section of track. It appears the HJ  Chinese made model has traction tyres on the driving axle but the Jouef has not so pickup is only on four wheels. Has anyone come across this problem and a simple means of fixing. ???
