Digital chip problems

Is problems with the digital Chip common? I have converted a few cars that’s have gone wrong almost straight away, they’re not exactly cheap to keep replacing

There are lots of variables when converting cars that are not DPR.

The most common problems occur when converting older cars or non-Hornby cars as the motors pull too many amps and burn out the chips.

Could you be specific in which cars you are converting with which chips?

To be fair they are older cars or different makes mostly, although I have had a DPR easy change chip go wrong as well. With what you’ve said about the motors maybe if I update them it should be fine and change other makes to scalextric ones, I hadn’t thought of that.
