Which Decoder?

Your choice of DCC system shouldn't have a bearing on decoder choice. Physical form factor is a consideration of course, and with decoders it can be a case of you get what you pay for - ie. smoothness of motor drive and features of cheaper decoders can be inferior. You'll also find people have their favourites based on what they've tried and found to work well in their locos.

I'm not a heavy or dedicated DCC user, but it seems to me that in the N gauge world Zimo decoders are often recommended, and I expect they'll be a popular choice for TT models too.

There are still supply problems with electronic components affecting availability of decoders. Zimo seems to have been hit by this from what I read.

Probably best to hear the experiences of people on here who've tried different decoders in their A1s.

Sound - HM7000-N18TXS

Non-sound - HM7000-N18

No other Hornby decoder is suitable as a direct plug-in.

You can of course buy any other brand of Next18 decoder you choose including some that are cheaper. However, on a like-for-like comparison, you will have a hard time beating the value of these Hornby decoders for sophistication in motor control and other advanced features.

And that’s without even mentioning the Bluetooth capability and the free downloadable control App on your phone or tablet.

I will wait for the Hornby decoders, but if you should decide not to do that I would get in touch with a specialist DCC supplier. They advertise in the model railway magazines. For the sake of an email you will get good advice and, in my experience, good post-delivery support.
