Rusty1707822507
Dear all,i am hand painting my 1/72 aircraft using acylics, applying a gloss varnish, applying decals, applying a gloss varnish and then applying enamel washes to panel lines. I dip a cotton bid in enamel thinner to remove excess wash. Despite the most gentle of touches i am inadvertently removing paint. all products are humbrol. i've watched endless youtube videos and i've just ruined my latest build.Any advice most welcome or if any one could recommend a thread or youtube video.Neil, a frustrated returning modeller! Sailorman
I'm afraid I don't highlight my panel lines ..... someone else could advise better ... However I've found that enamel thinner will tend to remove underlying layers of paint unless they have really dried properly.
peebeep
Are you using a swab that's wet with thinner as opposed to slightly dampened? This might make a difference, although you don't say what type of varnish you're using, that could hold a clue to the problem. Also, is this a pin or sludge wash? For the latter clay washes are recommended as they can be removed with water.
SD45elect2000
I've only had luck using acrylic washes over laquer or enamel paint. I still want to try oil washes using white spirit to clean it up. One alternative to using washes is to preshade or black base the model like this one.I didn't use any washes here.Randall
peebeep
The Plasmo YouTube channel has excellent tutorial videos on how to do oil washes.
