Rallymatt
You have probably worked this out Dave, when using the powders, small amounts lightly dusted along then work it about. A common mistake is a brush full in one place. You can dampen it too. Good vac along to clear any loose powder and clean rails off. 1
Dave the Busker
By the time I've got the whole layout covered in the stuff I'll probably have got the hang of it... 😂 1
Rallymatt
The powder clogs vacuum cleaner filters for fun too 1

Dave the Busker
Decided to rejig the factory area, possibly with some Metcalfe N factory buildings. I'd been looking at some other people's photos of their layouts and the Metcalfe buildings didn't seem out for TT. The weather's looking awful for busking in Glasgow the next few days so that could be a rainy day project. Also trying some card templates to visualise a tunnel area on the branchline. The joy of this hobby, even if an area looks finished, it never is. Always the chance to try something different 😂
Rallymatt
This is one of the great parts of our hobby, we can change things and try something new
TaffsTT
Top work there and inspiring.
Dave the Busker
Today's project: on the right, half finished Metcalfe ramshackle workshop kit in N gauge next to a 00 download kit printed at 63% for TT. Metcalfe doesn't look out of place for scale to me so far.
Dave the Busker
Ok you might have to duck slightly going in the door up the stairs, but I'm 6 foot 5, I have to duck for most doors anyway 🤣
Rallymatt
People were shorter back then! At 6’5 you would have been in the circus Dave! 🤣 2
Dave the Busker
A quick video to show the slow running improvement to the 08 with a little bit of weight added inside the body. Didn't need to add much, but it's drastically reduced the chances of it stalling on the points.
GMD
Excellent idea. Where did you put the weights?
Andrew-372848
... and what material did you use to weigh it down?
Dave the Busker
Loose lead shot pellets from Railway scenics. There's just enough space in the body shell to put a bit front and back. 1
Rallymatt
I did this on mine when if first came, made a small card bulkhead and set some lead shot in Scenic Cement, the area behind the radiator and then the cab floor up to height of the windows. That additional little bit of weight makes a big difference, I have since also fitted a Zimo decoder and Lais stay alive which takes the model to another level of smooth snail pace operation.

Rallymatt
There is a very sinister looking chap hanging about in a doorway… probably best to call it a day on the busking Dave and get yourself home

Rallymatt
That’s not reassuring! Any city that has (had) lime green fire engines is to be viewed with suspicion although Lindy on the can of Tennants was nice ..
Dave the Busker
Could be worse, could be Larkhall. They don't tolerate anything green there...
Chris98
The addition of a ford cortina and DCI Gene Hunt would sort out that shifty bloke 😂

Dave the Busker
That's just Ernest of E. Brumfitt and Son locking up for the night. Son left early for the R.E.M. gig advertised on the poster by the workshop and left him to it 😂 (Going by the poster, that would be the 1998 Up tour, at which time my dad and grandpa did work as picture framers in a workshop a bit like that, and I did help out on a Saturday job from time to time, and did go to that R.E.M. tour at the Stirling Castle date. Love how much personal history you can work into a model railway!)
