Dave the Busker
Having spent a couple of days working on lighting, I've found a couple of things that will no doubt be very old news to anyone here with plenty of experience but might be useful tips for total novices like me.The lights I got were cheap Chinese eBay imports, they came with no instructions at all and only the vaguest hint in the listing of how to install them. I knew they needed the resistors soldered into the circuit as they had 3v LEDs and my Gaugemaster accessories output was 12v. However, rookie error, I started by wiring them in series. After about six were in, the brightness was dimming fast. A switch to a parallel circuit and all's fine.Secondly, I remembered that screw in contact terminal blocks exist. Switching to them rather than trying to solder everything underneath the baseboard really helped. When you're 6'5 and trying to get into a space that's only about 2 and a half foot high, only having to screw things in instead of solder them made it just very awkward rather than physically near impossible! joy

Dave the Busker
How cool is this? Got this bonfire from Bunters Yard on eBay, the LED flickers so it looks just like a real fire
ntpntpntp
Nice brazier effect. Very simple to make, usually orange and red LEDs with an additional flickering yellow LED or two. For a bonfire they look even better with a smoke unit 🙂
Dave the Busker
Ah yeah, brazier was the word I was meaning but couldn't remember. Smoke units are probably a bit beyond me at the minute, but then again I thought the same about lighting until last week 😄

Dave the Busker
Hmm. Seem to have lost the last couple of pictures. They were URL inserts, original photos should still be on my Facebook page. More new forum glitches?

Try the method I stumbled across, described in Forum Feedback section under adding images to posts. Works a treat 👍
Dave the Busker
Looked it up. I don't have a smartphone though, just a Mac laptop. Hopefully it's something that gets sorted soon. Cheers anyway!
Rallymatt
Dave, it should work with a Mac or any other device too. I think the key thing is to upload image to gallery and then link that to the post. 😁

Dave the Busker
Aha, this one worked! I've found how to put images into the gallery and then put them into the forum. Cheers @Rallymatt and thank you @GMD 🙂 Edited February 22 by Dave the Busker
Dave the Busker
Top photo is some more experiments in how to shoot the trains with the lighting. Bottom photo is a new wagon picked up today at Model Rail Scotland. As my layout is based in south west Scotland, it was about time it had something LMS. Thank you @GMD for the coal load for it too 🙂

Dave the Busker
It was a year ago I started properly building Hollybush. I'd had a very small trial run in the corner of the living room to see if I felt like model railways and TT120 could be something that I could get back into, then took the plunge to build a proper baseboard. March 2023 to March 2024 in the photos. I'm amazed at how it's come on! 10

Dave the Busker
Picked up a few scenic detail items to work on the area around Dalrymple station and the goods yard. Some rock outcrops from a wargame model shop (I'll have a go at making my own at some point, but I thought it might be an idea to get some that have been made by someone who knows what they're doing as a reference point first). More fencing and ballast on order. Got some weathering powder too, experiments with that coming soon.
