Programming hornby accessory decoder with RM

Recommended Posts

Start reading the RM manual from Page 73 onwards. It's all explained on those pages with example screen shots (reading the manual saves reinventing the wheel and duplicating the information in this thread).

Just a few key things to note in case the manual is difficult to follow.

The Track A&B input of the R8247 needs to be temporarily and directly wired to the PROG A&B output of the controller interface during the programming task, then re-reterminated to the controller Track A&B output when programming is completed.

Also note that the 'Green Tick' is not the button that is clicked to write the DCC Address. To write the address selected in the writing pop-up window you click the pen icon in the bottom left corner. The red cross closes the writing window. The green tick reads the R8247 CVs.

Also note that you only need to enter the address for port 1, the other 3 ports are automatically set by the writing function.

Final note, the addresses must be incremented in blocks of four. 1 to 4, then 5 to 8, then 9 to 12 etc, with the addresses in bold being assigned to the first port of each sequential R8247 you configure.

EDIT. The whole process is also documented in a lot more 'step by step' detail than the manual in FAQ5 located in the sticky "Railmaster FAQ Index" thread at the top of the Railmaster forum. Where incidently this question should have been posted as it is basically a Railmaster forum 'How To' question.
