Airfix Bren Carriers

Hi all

well over the years I've made more Airfix Bren Carriers than I care to remember.

I'm finally getting round to a few for the Far East.

Any ideas which colours I should use - keep it simple please!

Also, one of life's not so little mysteries is internal colours for Bren Carriers and softskins in general - painting guides never seem to show this!

Any ideas and suggestions please.

As I understand it, soft-skins were painted the same colour internally as the exterior.

No.13 B.S.987C-1942 Jungle Green Base colour, Burma 1942.

For near enough try Vallejo Model Color 95 70893 US Dark Green FS34079

Vallejo Model Air 71016 US Dark Green RLM73 RAL6014 FS34079

Vallejo Model Air 71092 Medium Green

Humbrol 116 Matt US Dark Green

No.16 B.S.381-1930 Deep Bronze Green Base colour, Burma 1945.

For near enough try Vallejo Model Color 98 70897 Bronze Green RAL7022 RLM70 FS34052

Humbrol 75 Matt Bronze Green

I'm trying Tamiya XF 51 Khaki Drab which looks maybe a shade too dark.

For some unknown reason despite much stirring it'[s not taking too well on the Carrier possibly due to my trying Airfix paints first!

Hi Richard

As Ratch has mentioned Universal carriers were the same inside as out. You could apply a slightly light shade inside just to make it more aesthetically pleasing.

If you want to add a bit more to them, there's a guy on Etsy that I deal with who prints some very nice miniatures. I have just bought some Aussie Matilda riders from him, they are superb. 3Djonson is his shop name, great subjects and prices.
