Cooper Tape on LARGE Scaletrix track

Any advice is appreciated

So I unpacked the track after 23 years in totes. The condition is so so, maybe 15% are in rough shape, rust, some places right through the rails, the male ends missing on pieces, etc. My plan is to cover the track with copper tape.

What are people’s thoughts on this?

The tape does not cover the track, it simply goes either side of the slots like the factory metal strips.
