P-Henny
Not really. The only way to buy a Railmaster Key on its own is via the within RM process. If YOU did this, the key would be purchased in your name using your email and postal addresses and thus not transferable to another party who would have different address data. The within RM key purchase method does not support buying 'what is in effect' a blank key that you can pass on. The cost of the key is in the region of £70, which is comparable with buying the eLink mentioned below. The only way you could realistically provide a usable key to pass on to a third party would be to purchase the Hornby eLink interface. This comes with a RM CD and key. You would then keep the CD case sealed and pass it on unopened. The new owner could then activate the key with their own name & address data. They would also have a spare eLink using this method.RM & eLink is £122 in the Hornby Shop but may be cheaper via other retailers.https://uk.hornby.com/products/elink-railmaster-software-r8312
Fishmanoz
Given your situation, I suggest it’s better for the new owner to do the buying. Or possibly you can do it within RM using all their details?
P-Henny
Or possibly you can do it within RM using all their details? But the credit card name / address details of the OP wouldn't match the new owner name / address used for the key, so maybe too risky. HRMS police the key very aggressively with regard blocking the transferrence of the license key to other parties. To be pedantic it is "Activation" not "Activision". You should be able to edit your title and starter post content using the edit option in the '3 dot' menu in the top right corner of your starter post. Fishmanoz
Emphasis on ALL the new owner’s details incl name, address, email, cc (although not certain on cc as HRMS should not be keeping those details).Would seem simpler for the new owner to do so. P-Henny
The point I was trying to make was, say you fill in the order form within RM with the details for Bill Brown (new user), but then submit the payment credit card in the name of John Smith (current owner) [alias Jack Spratt] to complete the purchase of the key. The order may or may not fail due to the CC name data not matching, as it could look like a stolen card is being used to actually purchase the key.Total agreement, that the new owner should be given the choice to continue using RM or not and make their own purchase arrangement.Another complication would be that since the online purchase can only be done from within a 'running' copy of RM, then that would need to be done on Bill Brown's PC hardware else if it was done on John Smith's PC then Bill Brown would have to go through the PC transfer process to enable RM on his own PC. That is to say, John Smith deactivates key on his PC after purchase and then Bill Brown has to initiate the 'reset request' form on his PC to reactivate key. All very messy indeed. 96RAF
All new user has to do is download the latest version as demo, pay for the new licence then copy across the usual files from the old user except resource, I.e trackplan, locos, programs if any, etc.HRMS would never see cc details as purchase is always thru’ a 3rd party finance agency. 96RAF
I have just now downloaded from all three links in the download sticky post and from the Hornby link in the support area. They are all working. Which link are you using.
P-Henny
Martin, It does work I have just tested it and RM downloaded OK.The download 'appearing' not to work is very common, particularly if using Windows 11 in conjuntion with Windows Defender. Is this your PC platform scenario.Read through ALL of the posted link below, following ALL links posted within it (mainly my posts in the thread). This will help you to get a successful download. The issue is two fold, firstly the RM software is not hosted on a HTTPS secure server and secondly the Microsoft Security Certificate is out of date and hasn't been updated. Windows 11 & Defender then refuse to download it because they think it is a security risk. These issues can be worked around, the linked thread gives how to guidance.https://uk.hornby.com/community/forum/problem-down-loading-railmaster-345519?ccm_paging_p=1P.S. You have hijacked someone else's thread that is completely unrelated to your specific issue. You should have raised a new thread of your own.
