Length Of Track

Hi

I am about to set up a layout for my live steam 'Scotsman'. I notice in the LS Operator's Manual there is an oval of track with given measurements. Now here is what some of you may believe is a daft question, but to me the only daft question is the

 

one that you don't ask.

 

Is there a technical reason for this 'length' of track and if so, if I was to use the same length of track but with a more rectangular layout rather than the suggested oval would that be suitable without any problems.

am sure that the answer is yes it is will be alright, but I just want to be absolutely sure before I start.

Yes it is will be alright. The measurements will only be a suggested layout, the same as you get a serving suggestion on packets of frozen food.

The track can be as long as you wish. The longer it is the more power feeds you will need but that goes with any type of model railway.

Head on over to my blog and you will see that track length isnt an issue. BUT, if you want to go for a larger layout, you need to make sure you have VERY good connections to the track. A Power Bus is recommended (each section of track then draws power

 

from the bus, ensuring a consistent supply).

Although it comes with third radius track you should use forth radius curves as live steam engines like wider curves.
