On the go at the mo'...

Just completing a pair of 1:72 Spitfire MkV's. One a Revel and one Airfix. The Revel is better tooled but has unecessary fiddle bits (e.g. Oil cooler comes in two skinny sections that are hard to fit). And why does Airfix not put the red bit in the middle of the roundal?they look great together though.

I have about a dozen other kits aslegacy from my son but I have a series of special treats lined up now that could take years. Namely 1:24 Hurricane MkI (£20 at Hobbiecraft some months ago) and 1:24 Typhoon and FW190 (thanks Airfix for the VE Day deal!!)

The decals are produced by screen printing which means each colour is applied separately. Having more colours in a particular decal increases the risk of the registration being out. This can be a big problem, although it is rare. This would put, for example, the red dot off-centre in a roundel. Only having 2 colours reduces the risk, hence the seperate red dots in the revell kits (I haven't seen this in an airfix kit so far and have only had 1 misaligned set so far.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just started 1/72 Mosquito (to be built as a 617 Sq Mk VI).

I had started a fairly old 1/72 Tornado GR4 (also as 617 Sq - J for Johnnie to match my Lancaster) but, upon delving into the box, I found that it was missing the clear sprue.Airfix don't hold spares so I will have a model with a big hole on the top. I have suggested that the Dambusters club special parts would suffice but am waiting for their reply.

After quite a big spell of not modelling, the bug has returned with a vengeance.

Airfix 1/48 Hawk T1

Airfix 1/72 Spitfire Mk II

Italeri Eurofighter Typhoon T3

Revel 1/24 Escort Rally

Bit of a mixed bag, but keeps it interesting 😆
