uksqueezea
Hi, the timber I use mostly is Western Red Cedar, it's all ripped down through a bench saw and for safety reasons, ripped again to smaller sizes on a band-saw. I don't use match sticks , its seems to have some sort of extra fluid soaked into the timber, maybe as a helpful accelerant but its hard to paint. The cedar timber is very dry so the paint I use is watered down and then I go over it with a much lighter same coloured paint by drying brushing the second coat. So dark coat first, same colour/ lighter shade- and dry brush.

Andy P.
No issues with tips on building or photography whatsoever. The two biggest "no-nos" are posting personal information and promoting other brands that don't belong to Hornby. (WHAT?! Other brands exist?! I know....)Otherwise post away!

uksqueezea
Hi Just a quick tutorial on this particular shot. The board is a simple loop, with a large tennis court light suspended about 5ft above the track, yellow light because its closer to sunlight, (here in Australia the sun just melts everything if you try to do this outside so has to be done indoors) The reason for the loop is mostly so the car only has a small distance to travel before I get to try again to get the shot. Track is set on about 3 volts so the car just cruises by. With the camera set for clarity ( shot in Manual mode with the 55-200 lense/- F6- 1/200 ISO) the idea of the loop is you will only get about 4 inches of the track that will be in focus, hopefully the car is there when you shoot as it runs by. Very hard to do and don't be surprised if you get 10 bad photos and one good one. You'll know which one you want to use as it will indeed jump off the screen at you. photos should be ok to explain all this..thanks for reading./media/tinymce_upload/1a2cb1b790a8c7d1b28baf67d4b250c3.png/media/tinymce_upload/4d18f1b6edc19a121708412bbb67e8fd.pngand you'll end up with this type of shot. This is not a particularly good photo, but you'll get the idea./media/tinymce_upload/bb270ddd363a9810113a5db00de79168.png

Poppa Wheely
My photos are not as technical but they speak for themselves. Those photography tips are outstanding. I will try to duplicate your technique at some point. But, for now these were taken with my cell phone./media/tinymce_upload/c4b861911a7078fd54a19b51ad652751.jpg/media/tinymce_upload/05637c2c3da20104c613a3c2bf678e8f.jpg/media/tinymce_upload/a75f2d067877c8c640804fe2b9c26734.jpg/media/tinymce_upload/a55246604fc43d7a57f54215429b152c.jpg/media/tinymce_upload/e700e67a16c83d19d5d632a867c15d14.jpg/media/tinymce_upload/02ea878b7692304a7d762f18c5103baf.jpg/media/tinymce_upload/7ac39ed8cd52836a677319a289fcb2de.jpg/media/tinymce_upload/7a79b405fc2d213acdd8c85a44df53ae.jpg
