Here's a couple of images of my NDM6 CAD work.

 

The NDM6 is a 2ft gauge NG diesel locomotive built by Suri and Narayan (SAN Engineering) a factory that builds mostly Industrial Shunters. SAN is based in Whitefield in Bangalore which is a locality known for it's old British buildings and Anglo-Indian community.

 

The NDM6 was first pressed into service on the Matheran Hill Railway (MHR) near Bombay. After many years of service the NDM6s were moved to the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) where they now chugg up and down the hills every day.

The NDM6 has over it's years been modified and I've managed to draw up both variations. The basic differences are the cab window (bonnet end) and the speed whiskers on the grille.

 

The NDM6 will be powered by a TomyTec TM-TR02 motorized bogie and I shall have the model 3D printed on an Anycubic Photon by a good friend of mine. If it is succesful I shall be buying an Anycubic Photon for myself.

Tim Shaw is at it again.....

 

Yes Tim has been an extremely busy man and this time has an update with our 1:76 scale MG coaching stock and the 4-6-2 YP's tender.

 

Tim's layout is based in the fictional town of Jamalsarai in the "Eastern Railway, E.R." division of the Indian Railways. The E.R.never had any YP steam locos but the E.R. livery really went down well in Tim's mind, therefore he also has a fictional MG steam shed and Jamalsarai serves as a BG and MG railhead.

I always look towards brands like Hornby, Dapol, Kato and Athearn when designing my models, therefore I have incorporated details like:-

• Heavy chassis
• Cab detail
• Etched see-through grilles wherever possible
• RP25 profile wheels
• Kadee knuckle couplers
• Directional lighting
• DCC and DCC sound compatible
• Detailed bogies
• Scale speed
• Internal engine room detail
• Profile DBR fans

Thank you Roger, you always have some nice things to say. It's very encouraging. I recently got a delivery from China. Parts for 3 locomotives. I shall be painting them and post pictures here whenever possible.

I've made some progress on my Class 90, the main parts of the PH Designs Class 90 detailing kit have now been assembled and fixed to the model. All my own 3D printed parts have also been added. The model is now in ot's coat of primer. I'll now inspect it and sand off al the rough edges.

 

Here's an overview of the model, the etched grille and headlights will be added last....

Another project I recently started off was an N scale (1:160) Indian Railway WDM1. The WDM1 was Indian Railway's version of the popular ALCo World Series locomotives. The WDM1 was the first diesel locomotive used by IR on a large scale. The mainly ran on the east cost between Vijaywada and Howrah (Calcutta) and on the grand trunk line between Howrah and Mughalsarai. They were seen on both passenger/express and freight workings.

 

This is a kitbash using a Hornby-Arnold RENFE Class 316.

I've designed some accurate round buffers, headlight housings and also a gangwayto modify the rear.

Tim has dropped in an email once again and he's really got some wonderful stuff for us to see.

 

I've probably mentioned it before, Tim (a customer of mine for the last 2+ years) models the Indian Railways in 1:76 scale. He models BG track using 22m gauge track and MG track using 12mm gauge track. His layout is a fictional one named Jamalsarai and is based in the Eastern Railway Division of the Indian Railway network (Calcutta side).

 

Here's some images below, as usual I've designed the kits for him, he's done all the assembling and painting and so on.

Indian Railway BOXN and BOXN-HS wagon.

 

The BOXN and BOXN-HS wagons are used all over India, their primary use is to carry coal, steel, iron ore and so on. There's many varieties of BOXN wagons from different diagrams. I've chosen to do the most widespread design. BOXN is the base variant and BOXN-HS is the variant certified to run at higher speeds.

At the moment I have 2 locomotives being 3D printed - WDP4 and WDS6AD and 3 wagons - BOXN, BCNA and BVZC.

 

I hope to have a few 3D printed samples ready by the month end.

As with my other models like the WDP4 and WDG4, this will also be 1:87 scale (HO gauge)

 

Once again I aim to have these models as good as RTR models and hence hope to have the following features:-

- Highly detailed 3D printed parts

- Highly accurate representation of a WDS6AD

- Fully detailed cab interior

- Option for directional headlights

- Option to have DCC and DCC Sound

- Option for single and double powered motorized bogies

- Flush glazing

- RP25 profile wheels

- Kadee knuckle couplers

- Etched brass details included

- Will be available as static/RTR models.

also new to the hobby, l have a couple of older sets which were bought for me when i was a kid (flying scotsman and High Speed Train) i am curious about bogies or the entire lower section of the rolling stock i am thinking about designing and printing my own carages to hold containers or my sons toy cars but i am bamboozled by the lower sections, i have looked on the spares sections and there are so many different types of chasis and bits and peices and i am curous wether these lower partsd can be printed, if so where can i get the models from, ive been searhing yeggi and thingiverse and i am not getting very far

I'm assuming you're talking about the underframe, underframe details and the bogies? If so, yes those can be designed and 3D printed.

 

As to where you can get them from, depends on what actually you want. I think you want some kind on flat wagon to carry cars or containers or both.

Regarding the dimensions for your proposed model, seeing that it will be a fictional one, dimensions IMHO will be best figured out once you know what your wagons should carry. So if it's cars then a wagon roughly the a little wider than the width of your car. If it's containers, then same logic applies. 

 

We all learn constantly, and as Rog (RJ) has correctly stated, HTH is the abbreviation for "hope this helps". IMHO is the abbreviation for "in my humble opinion"

 

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. There's almost always someone on here who has the answer.

Finally I received my 3D printed parts from China. It consisted of the various parts to make up the following HO scale models:-

- Indian Railways WDP4 or WDG4- Indian Railways BOXN- Indian Railways BVZI

 

So far I've only managed to wash the 3D prints (though not necessary) and give them a coat of primer. I have no done any sanding or anything yet. The quality of these 3D prints is astounding.

 

The WDP4/WDG4 costed a mere $40 (compared to Shapeways' $120), the two wagons costed $20 each (compared to Shapeways' $65). Quality wise, the Chinese factory supplies 3D prints that are far superior than Shapeways in terms of finesse, detail, flexibility and so on.

Lead time for the 3D printing? Took Ivan (the gentleman in China) about 5 days to have all the parts 3D printed. Shipping was actually swift, it got held up in Customs for over 3 weeks though. China to India was done in 3 days.

 

I know many of my clients in the UK receive their 3D prints in 4 days max.
