koo9
I have just opened a new decoder with a plug-in connection. One wire seems to be a fly-lead (purple/ mauve)and there is a vacant pin in the plug. It is as if the wire was missed off in the soldering process. I can't find any reference to it can anyone help please?
Gregd99
the flying purple lead is for an extra function. it is not meant to be connected to the plug. search for purple in https://www.hornby.com/filelibrary/download/?FileID=

koo9
Having re-read the extensive, multi-language booklet supplied with it, there is no mention of it in there. An oversight by Hornby it seems. David
poliss
Yes, but those instructions are for the standard R8249 decoder. Koo9 says he has the R8245 Sapphire, which is a 21 pin decoder. Not having seen the decoder myself. I can't tell if the violet lead should be connected or loose.
96RAF
HiThese are the standard wire colours:Red – Right hand track contact Black – Left hand track contact Orange – Right hand motor contact Grey – Left hand motor contact White – Function output A (Front headlight, f0) Yellow – Function output B (Rear headlight, f0) Blue – Function positive common Green – Function output C (normally controlled by f1) Purple – Function output D (normally controlled by f2)Green and purple may not be present if a decoder is less than 4-function. Looking at a new Sapphire the purple wire is connected at the detachable 21 pin adaptor end and free at the 8 pin plug end.All other colours are connected at both ends. My 8-pin plug has no spare pins - all 8 are wired as above.Rob
Gregd99
agreed that the info was for the 8245. the purple lead is always flying as far as I know.
