Chrissaf
could anyone recomend which TTS decoder I could use on a type 49 or hall class loco? (very reasonable at under £50). TIASam
2e0dtoeric
If it isn't made yet, look for one intended for a similar locomotive. There isn't much difference between a Hall and a Castle.
sam496
Thanks Eric I ordered the R8110 which is for a Castle class.
walkingthedog
There is one major difference, one has two and the other four cylinders. Sounds a lot different.

walkingthedog
As long as it has a GWR sound whistle.
2e0dtoeric
As it is nearly impossible to get a TTS decoder to match the 'motion' of a steam outline loco, does it really matter that the sound has four instead of two cylinders? As long as the timing valve goes clack, and the whistle sounds right, whate else is there. Steam blowing off, coal being shovelled, etc, sounds the same on them all anyway.
walkingthedog
I would say the whistle is the most important bit. You wouldn’t want a GWR loco with an A4 chime whistle or VV.
