Relevent Topics

Now that Hornby has discontinued production of  Live Steam and the Thomas series, is there really any point in continuing to have these as main topic areas?

I certainly no longer look at either of these topics with any regularity myself and there does seem to be a lack of regular posts from other forum members. Some of whom seem to have vanished from the forum.

There is another angle to look at this from of course...

I accept the fact Hornby and the franchise are no more but isn't it a bit like buying a TV or any piece of hardware or software and then the company releasing it suddenly pulls the plug and there is no support for it any longer?

We would all be wondering why and asking the company to have a rethink. The choice here is Hornby's to make although I do see a reason for keeping the forum pages active for another year or so.

One simple way of 'hiding' these forums is to place them into a folder called 'discontinued' for example with a strict cut-off date for their removal, if Hornby think it necessary.

I see the argument from all three sides, removal, temporary continuance or moving to another sub-forum together with other discontinued topics. However, I cannot see Hornby doing much either way except to leave well alone for at least a good while yet.

I wasn't avocating a 'ban' on Thomas but now Hornby have entered into the Junior market with the Paddington etc. train sets, and the Family related stuff there seems to be a wider scope for entry level material, and people starting out may be put off by the more technical discussions which sometimes take place on the General and other Forums.

Live steam does now seem to be a very specialist area only pursued by a few.
