keithp1707821843
HelloI am now adding the final touches to my first layout, and have three buffer stops. I would like to paint them, and also add some weathering effects - any ideas at all?Keith
96RAF
Google railway buffer stops, select images tab and take your pick. Anything from pristine painted to absolutely rusted away - in all shapes and sizes Including the Hornby style.
walkingthedog
Here's one and three quarters of mine. /media/tinymce_upload/99937ab5caff17dfa981d5051a692cf9.jpg
Bulleidboy
These are mine (two!) - I bought these pre-wired with an illuminated lamp on top of the buffer beam. They are the same as the Peco ones, with the exception of the working lamp, wiring and resistor - I recall they cost about £5 at a model railway exhibition. Painted in Humbrol Matt Brown (No.177?) - with Matt Red and White on the beam. https://flic.kr/p/2i8octS

keithp1707821843
Had a go at painting the buffers - thought I would use some artist acrylic paint (I paint you see), however it does not really work!Do you need to use oil paint? such as Humbrol? Bulleidboy
Some plastics take paint better, if they have first had a light coating of spray primer (Halfords?).
Ruffnut Thorston
Artists acrylic tends to peel off plastic. The best paints for plastic are those designed for models I think.. Acrylics by Humbrol, or other brands, or the "traditional" enamels by Humbrol, or other brands. As suggested above, a primer coat helps the paint to stick... especially acrylics, which a re not solvent based.
walkingthedog
I just slosh on Humbrol or similar enamel or acrylic paint.
LCDR
As a general rule the buffer plank will be painted white with a red horizontal stripe across the middle, however local variations do exist. /media/tinymce_upload/9b86a231d9bbab16fda27766635b99f7.jpg
