Trainmodeller35
I'm trying to design my first layout, but I'm awful at drawing so it's really hard to put my design on paper. Does anyone know of a good computer programme to use to create my design? Should I start building and not worry about the design?
Chrissaf
Choice of two Windows PC applications. Both offer free evaluation versions but these have restricted number of track elements..SCARM - Simple Computer Aided Railway ModellingAnyrail.TIP: As a newbie poster on the forum, just be aware that the 'Blue Button with the White Arrow' is not a 'Reply to this post' button. RDS
I bought AnyRail, which is also available as a free trial with limited features. The support was excellent as well when I had a question and an item I requested, was added to it in quick time. Chrissaf
I had a similar experience with SCARM.....the author made an amendment to the application at short notice to fix my reported issue.
96RAF
Scratching out a design on paper has the advantage of speed and it is easily changed, but a computer program will highlight where your dream layout doesn’t actually work as it won’t fit in the space you have. I have sketched out a basic requirement for a layout then gone ahead with in my case Scarm to draw it in accurate detail. Thrn it has to be changed a million times to get it to work as a decent running layout. Others say just put track on boards and see how it goes. It all depends if you have a ‘plan’ about what sort of layout you want - is it a replica of somewhere, or just track doing interesting things. walkingthedog
If you have an idea in your head you can easily make a rough sketch, then lay some track. You can then adaptvas you go.
