The son of Triangman
Been a few issues with poor QC on the new model. Lots of reports of buffers missing or broken off, couplings fitted upside down, wires off from loco to tender. Hornby need to look at that area. I'm sticking with the old model, I want something to run on a regular basis.
bruce_johnson
Still trying to get my broken buffers sorted 😢 Do intend to run it, but untill all is sorted it will have to stay packaged up for return, so don't know if the wiring between loco and tender is OK. LCDR
I am wondering whether I should build the Kitmaster Rocket plastic kit I have squirreled away or get a Hornby working, or a Dapol kit one. I do have a 18.83mm gauge diecast model in my display cabinet the loco is a metallic brown and the tender metallic green. Maybe not! The Hornby coaches would be nice though. NWR-Gordon-4
What a stupid amount of money, considering they are faulty, or some of them are. I wouldn't want to have been the winner of the auction, having that silly bill to pay and then the thaught in my mind that the product could be faulty, as some of them have been. I would be very unhappy if I spent over £300.00 on a train pack and when it arrives I found it failty. GNR-Gordon-4 (HF)
Ruffnut Thorston
Hi LC&DR. The Airfix ( now Dapol) Rocket kit is probably the best static kit. Airfix added some extra details to the Kitmaster model after they acquired it. I seem to remember that the loco crew figures were added by Airfix. I think that the Kitmaster kit has metal wire chimney stays. It's all in the Kitmaster books, but they are elsewhere... 😉 The GBL Rocket came with a coach. All based on the Tri-ang/ Hornby Railways versions. Good if you can find one! The actual Tri-ang/ Hornby Railways version is also good. The main problem may be finding parts for the Minic Motorway derived X.500 (I think) motor. It is a split chassis design. I think that the Rocket was the first Tri-ang Railways split chassis model. I think that the only other Tri-ang Hornby split chassis model was the Battle Space Turbo Car...

The son of Triangman
These are great old models when looked after, if only the moulds hadn't been destroyed. The new model isn't as good, tried it didn't like it. /media/tinymce_upload/07962f86914055027aad5fe8cf230aca.jpg
