ColinB
Am I right in believing that the last Mallard A4 in BR Green that Hornby produced, is the tender driven one?
walkingthedog
No I don't think so. They haven't made a tender drive A4 for years.
96RAF
Go to hornbyguide.com and search on Mallard. It will list every one ever produced with pictures so you can track for the green variant.
walkingthedog
The last was a Railroad version, loco drive.
ColinB
I thought that they must have produced a newer one as my tender driven one was really old. It appears the latest was 2008 and it was R2784. I think the Railroad version was blue with full valences. The reason I was interested, was I trying to work out whether it was worth updating my tender driven one to DCC ready (I run DCC) and add pickups to the loco, or try and find a later loco driven version. walkingthedog
This is DCC. The link is just an example. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hornby-R2784X-RailRoad-Mallard-Locomotive/dp/B00260GERA
ColinB
Great, thanks for all the info. Do you know when I did a search on FleaBay for Green Mallard, I only found the tender driven ones. It looks like I will try and get a secondhand Railroad version one and sell my old one on. I was thinking of converting the old one to run DCC, but I prefer the motor in the loco and it is a lot of messing about putting in all the extra pickups and socket, plus a newer one will work better with TTS. walkingthedog
I just searched for Hornby BR green mallard and this was the 4th item. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HORNBY-00-GAUGE-R2784X-BR-GREEN-4-6-2-CLASS-A4-MALLARD-60022-DCC-FITTED/283794466175?hash=item421377e57f:g:h50AAOSwaBJeVBrc
Anglia998
There have been four green Mallards:-1) R.350 (1979) in late BR livery2) R.309 (1980) in the same livery, but with greater detail.3) R.1064 (2005) This was in a set and had the early BR logo4) R.2784 (2008) a Railroad model in late BR livery
ColinB
Yes, I eventually bought one off EBay with a DCC decoder fitted from new. I was very pleased with it and I got it for a reasonable price. I will sell the old one.
