Lowey
I have just bought the R3284TTS flying scotsman,is there any way to turn the volume down using the hornby select controller?
Howbi
The quick set volume control is CV178....range 0-8.......if you want to adjust just the chuff sound then CV161 can be reduced range 0-8 default 4..........however your Select controller must be the latest Firmware version 1.6. If yours is not up to date then you need to contact Hornby Customer Service and get a returns number then post back to them for a £15 upgrade. You pay post to send but it is post free when returned......this is usually processed in a few days.........HB
Chrissaf
Only if you get the Hornby Select controller firmware upgraded to version 1.6 or you have the very latest new (facelift) Select controller whose firmware is already at version 2.0.The currently installed firmware revision level is displayed briefly during the Select power up process. Three sequential numbers are displayed:.XX followed by 30 followed by 03 where XX is the firmware revision between 10 and 20..If yours is between 10 and 15 then you can arrange for it to be upgraded to 16 (probably not 20 as that is for the new Select) by contacting Hornby Customer Services and requesting a 'returns number'. The cost of the upgrade is typically £15 plus your sending postage costs..The version 1.6 Manual Addendum can be downloaded from here where you can see the new 1.6 (and 2.0) features. If nothing appears to happen when downloading the file, check your nominated browser download folder and you should find that the PDF has downloaded silently in the background..https://www.hornby.com/uk-en/downloads/view/index/cat/12/.EDIT HB posted whilst I was typing mine. 96RAF
A simple volume fix for those whose controller cannot change CVs is to replace the 8-ohm speaker with a 100-ohm one as used by early ESU sound decoders. You can still find them for sale. This will knock the overall sound volume down without overloading the decoder. Select version states. Let us not get confused by a bit of shiny paint. Essentially the old cased Select and the new cased Select are functionally identical. It is not a Select Mk 1 or Mk 2. It has just been facelifted a bit and issued at the latest revision state i.e. v1.6, but to cater for any future firmware diversion the new cased Select will show 20-30-03 on startup. The firmware functionality is identical to the Select v1.6. So if you see 20-30-03 it is just the same as 16-30-03. As stated the v1.6 downloadable addendum to the manual applies to both these Selects.
