M. Matthews
Hi AllJust looking for some advice on how to construct a suitable Footbridge for the track layout below.I am a pretty new modeller so hopefully there is a solution that isn't too complicated. Could any of the Hornby footbridges be modified / bashed to suit such a layout? Many thanks!
Chrissaf
It took me ages to try and interpret your photo, it wasn't until I turned it through 90° that it started to make sense. For the benefit of others I have reproduced my interpretation below of your photo above.I like using Plastruct modelling products. You could then make a custom bridge to your very own design. Plastruct are strip mouldings that glue together with 'Solvent Cement' just like an Airfix model. The strip mouldings can then be used with embossed plastic sheets. The embossing covers things like checker-plate or rivet sheet or corrugations for bridge walkways and roofs etc . The Plastruct strip mouldings come in a range of basic shapes such as H & I beams, plus lattice work for bridge walls and pre-formed steps etc. Plastruct is a very flexible modelling system and where applicable in 00 or N scale options.EMA Home page [Plastruct Manufacturer]
M. Matthews
Thanks for your reply. Basically I'm looking at a footbridge that spans two tracks being linked to one that spans three. All the track is on the same level. Is that any help?Cheers
M. Matthews
Just seen your post. Much better interpretation! Thanks! I'll check out your suggestion! Was hoping there might be an option that doesn't require that level of skill but I guess I can give it a shot!
Chrissaf
What to see what others suggest before jumping in with both feet.
Stubaggieboy
I thoroughly recommend the Metcalfe footbridge card kits. Using multiple kits I constructed a very nice footbridge spanning seven platforms. Hope that helpsStu.
M. Matthews
I thoroughly recommend the Metcalfe footbridge card kits. That sounds brilliant! Any chance you have a picture of that you could post?
96RAF
The old Dapol (Airfix) footbridge can be bought cheaply in multiples and custom assembled to span several tracks.Shown here stored trackside until I plant them correctly.
Stubaggieboy
Hi.I have posted a picture, as I recall this was made from three kits. Regards.
Ruffnut Thorston
I would agree with RAF.The Dapol, ex Airfix, girder footbridge kit is designed to be extended.Building a bridge to suit your layout would be quite easy I think.https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/airfixtributeforum/2017-railway-group-build-no-2-davecov-s-railway-it-t51338.htmlThere are other, Ratio for one, plastic kits that can be joined together.Ratio 548 Modular Footbridge kit.Ratio 517 Concrete Footbridge kit.The card kits are ok, but I personally think that these are the least attractive of all the card kits.Metcalfe.Superquick.Probably because of the solidity of the supports. The Hornby plastic kit is nice, but not so easy to modify.EDIT: Ratio modular footbridge number revised to the OO model reference number...innocent
M. Matthews
That really is quite impressive! Think I might just give that a go!Thanks everybody for your replies!
Mac-_-
I always liked the look of the Airfix footbridges. I suppose it boils down to which one you like the look off more. Though i do try stay with plastic when i can. That's not too say there's anything wrong with Metcalfe, they do some lovely stuff.Stu. That's an impressive looking layout, wouldn't mind seeing more :).
DBfan
Just a small point the Ratio number shown is the N scale version. I think the OO scale version is no
Ruffnut Thorston
Thanks DB Fan...my post has been corrected to the OO gauge reference number.raising_hand
M. Matthews
Many thanks for the advice given.I took the plunge and done my first kit ever and I'm actually really pleased with the result. The whole structure is a lot more solid and stable than I would have believed for a card kit!

Jimbo1707820979
I built a Superquick footbridge to span two tracks and am quite pleased with the result, especially after putting in LED lighting.A drawback was the limited head clearance, which required some fettling. Here it is on my layout under construction.
