Hornby R8245 Sapphire Chip Auto Running?

I've just seen online that it appears you can alter CV 140 in the Sapphire chip and it'll create an element of automatic running.

That is, the loco will trundle down the track, wait for a set amount of time, then reverse back.

Is that correct?

How does the loco know where to stop? Is this also via a CV?

Are there any tutorials about this?

Thanks

CV140 enables a series of up to four timed events, which can be set by other CVs to repeat, e.g loco fwd at speed xx for yy h/m/s: stop: loco reverse at speed xxx for yyy h/m/s: stop: repeat zz times. As Rog says fairly complex so read the famous manual (RTFM).

The fuel burn and staged events are two separate capabilities on the Sapphire.

The fuel burn has no other function than as a simple count down timer against loco usage, when it will stop the loco and (if fitted) flash the lights to indicate the fuel is gone, until the Elite ON/OFF button is pressed to refuel the loco when away it goes again. Yes that is what the ON/OFF button is for, not what it says on the label.

The Sapphire staged events are specific speed, direction and duration commands sent in sequence. As there are only four events this can be rather limiting.

As stated by others RM Programs are much more comprehensive in what can be achieved.
