Not all the Bachmann Thomas things are HO scale. Some of the things are OO scale. The reason the Hornby Thomas range is discontinued is that there was a change in the copyright holder. It was originally owned by Gullane Thomas (Ltd). That sold out to HIt Entertainment which in turn was purchased by Mattel who make the Trackmaster Thomas. If Hornby continued to produce the Thomas range, it would mean paying a royalty to another toy manufacturer. So that's why!

hornby’s Thomas range was a good range with excellent model but the only issues are the size of Percy with the tooling that was modified by britt alcroft in the late 80s. Edwards tooling is also a modified tooling by hornby

Bachmann have this issue with seam lines on their model hornby had them but not as bad. Bachmann’s appeal is to kids and collectors who will run models and they are better models but never as good as hornby if any of this makes sense it’s just a rant

The tooling for James is much older, the loco body mould dates from 1958, it was the 3F tender loco from the Tri-ang range, Hornby put a bigger front running plate on it and modified the cab windows, they then fitted it with a School's tender.

Devious Diesel is another ex-Tri-ang moulding modified by Hornby, the mould dating from 1956.

Bear is an ex-Tri-ang moulding from 1967
