Help please with identifying decoders

Assuming your controller can read back and not just write CVs.

The short address is held in CV1

A long address is held in CVs 17 and 18 and needs use of a reverse calculator to find out the true value. Scroll down here . . . http://www.2mm.org.uk/articles/cv29%20calculator.htm

The sound load code is stored in CV159 but there is no published list of what these codes are as to loco type. I have some codes and may be able to help.

In the event your controller can only write - then either write value 8 to CV8 to reset the decoder to defaults and short address 3 - or simply overwrite a new short address of your choice. Some controllers support long addressing and writing a long address will automatically enter the correct values in CVs 17 and 18 as well as switch CV29 to use the long address.
