  1. Hey folks I recently picked up a couple of Bachmann's Mk1 Pullmans with lights - as far as I know there is no DCC socket - I assume then they are compatible on DCC without a decoder? Thanks
  2. Hi There, What is the R number of the HST you are trying to repair? The hornby service sheets may have some useful info. If not, there are kits available online that are designed for retrofitting and are not too expensive. TVR
  3. My King is R3331 in GWR Livery. On inspection of the socket in the tender there was excessive solder all over the place, and I wasn't impressed. It was easily sorted (solder sucker). Still doesnt run 100% but much better now! Cheers
  4. Hi Martyn, If it's the loco-tender connection with a loop and copper contacts beneath then it's not the most reliable in the world but if it works, then in my opinion it's best to leave it, unless it fails, when a better connection could be made by soldering wires across the joints. I have attached a diagram of the arangement of the connection (not my image!). If it the connection with the plug and metal bar, then it should be fine to leave it as it is. Best wishes
  5. Hi There, I have had this exact problem with my King Class. First thing I would do, if you are comfortable enough to do this, would be to remove the tender and loco body and check the soldering - on my example this was all over the place, which may have been a contributary factor in it's poor performance. Additionally, I'd check the contacts from the wheels and clean the pickups/back of wheel where they contact. Again, if you are comfortable enough to, maybe try removing the motor and testing the chassis for tight spots in the motion, and running the motor out of the body to ensure it all runs smoothly. Hope this helps TVR
  6. Hi there, I believe this is what you're after. https://support.hornby.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360016322180-CLASS-A4 Regarding help with loco driven models, what sort of help are you after? Best wishes
  7. Yeah, that would make sense, all of the older Hornby class 60s I've seen do have them fitted. Or is it an intentional detail difference between the models? That, I think, is unlikely considering those without full plows do come with the cutaway ones. Interesting to see what others make of this Best wishes
  8. Yes DJB I have had the same problem with my R3884 class 60. It seems older class 60s did come with the full plows as a member of my model club has one with them fitted. Interesting to see if this is intentional or just an issue. Best wishes
  9. Would that cause the sound to cut out? I did try using that control but it made no difference, sadly. Cheers TVR
  10. I recently bought a Bachmann 121 with sound - running on an NCE Power Cab - which runs beautifully with all sound functions working, until I'd run it for about an hour.Following this any attempts to access the higher functions (10-29) were met with the sound powering off (but lights and movement remaining) and the only way to get sound back was to factory reset decoder (CV 8 to 8) - any idea why this and how I could go about sorting it? Thanks TVR
  11. Hi there, I'm no expert (so please correct me if I'm wrong!) but generally LMS, LNER, GWR and SR branded wagond didn't tend to stray far from their homes, though this did happen occasionally. With private owner wagons, these were almost always mixed and matched in rakes all over the network. As I said I'm no expert, so feel free to correct me if I'm worng (which I probably am!) Hope this helps!
  12. Looks to be a modified version of one of these: https://www.hattons.co.uk/102885/hornby_dublo_edl17_class_n2_0_6_2t_69567_in_br_black_3_rail/stockdetail With the pipes and coal. I can't be sure though - so sorry about that Hope this helps TVR
  13. Yes, Hornby and Lima did an LNER j50. Not sure about N gauge, Sorry
  14. Hi all, Interesting to hear that these controllers use Asbestos - didn't know that was a thing. On that note - does anyone know which controllers also use asbestos? Thanks TVR
  15. Thought I'd have my say... Looks to me as if the artwork for both double and single track versions have been overlaid - this is obvious as Gated crossings never had "Penguin" style level crossing half barriers as modelled by Hornby in these packs, so it would be completely incorrect, and impossible to model with the packs! Also if you look at the top left hand track you can see the base for the single track version through the sleepers... Best wishes
