Class 56 ESU 3.5 sound decoder

For that version of ESU you need a rare as hen’s teeth 100ohm speaker. Do not attempt to connect anything of less impedance or you will destroy the sound amp.

The main pcb of the loco should have speaker tabs to solder to.

Just to provide a bit of clarity. The speaker isn't soldered directly to the decoder PCB, it is connected to the loco circuit board that mounts the 21 pin male pin connector onto which the female 21 pin decoder is plugged. You need to trace the loco circuit board tracks back from pins 9 and 10 to find suitable locations to make the speaker connection. They may even be indicated in some way, such as the letter S for example screen printed on the board. As 96RAF says, the correct speaker used with ESU 3.5 is typically 100 ohms.
