j.a.m.
Does anyone know a good website to find track plans please. I am looking to make a new layout that would be around 4ft x 4ft. Thanks
Bulleidboy
Hi j.a.m 4x4 is very small for a layout, could you stretch to 6x4 this will give a few more options. Try this site for more ideas www.freetrackplans.com - when you click on any layout you will notice the tool bar changes, one of the captions being Hornby, this will give you nearly all the layouts that Hornby have produced in their trackplan books over the years. Best of luck.

Normal
my opinion is this..... don't look at track plans, think about what you want and desine your own!
walkingthedog
When I built my layout I used track plans for ideas. I knew what I wanted but then noticed a few good ideas in the plans.
SkyCube
If you use a track plan, make sure its suitable for new model trains. Some plans are very old and might not work properly with more recent models.
malang66
try going to anyrail got a few nice plans on there for 4 x 4....
walkingthedog
I know you were told 4X4 isn't very big, but if that's the space you've got make the most of it. If you haven't actually started yet and don't have a lot of locos etc., how about trying N gauge. Probably not very helpful advice.
Graskie
Would that be DC N gauge, WTD?
walkingthedog
Any, whatever he wants. I've said it many times before, if I were starting out I'd use DCC.
tommo1986
I stumbled across a track plan book in my local Library, so maybe try there. But like WTD said, I wouldn't completley copy a plan, just nick bits that you like. Tom
poliss
4'x4' is small even for n gauge. Have you considered Z gauge?

Thanks Well if you can make it 4'6" square you have a just viable size for an OO scale layout. You won't be able to run anything bigger than an 0-6-0 and two coaches for a passenger train I would restrict goods trains to about five trucks and surprise surprise an 0-6-0 loco. you can get a station with small two siding goods yard loco depot again small and a fiddle yard all on a continuous run in that space. Not to mention a small scenery nightmare. and you can stay with second radius curves third in the platform. Other manufacturers also produce some very tasty morsels that could run on a tiny layout like this. How do I know this my layout is 4'6' square. If you google free track plans you will find a web site with a number of track plans some big some small but all worth a look. And this is sort of what you would be in for my humble efforts its not much but its getting there. I have not updated it for a while due to blown up computer and having to use girlfriends computer. http://www.newrailwaymodellers.co.uk/Forums/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=28749 have fun regards John
