Ah the girrafe car my favorite.
All the opening doors would I think break on the more scale modern wagons
Unfortunatly I have to agree with the building coments.
The Triang victorian era and 1960's modern run rings around todays buildings
Horrible

flat printed things they are.
Even the die cast metal Hornby Dublo Art Deco buildings run rings around the horrible flat printed things.
Not quite sure what they had but the flat things just don't have it.

I used to have the remains of one of the Triang opens (1 door was missing) and I agree they were rather crude. I also had one of the earlier BR vent vans with sliding doors but felt that the over crude doors looked out of place when marshelled amoung those

with fixed doors. I therefore like the idea of positionable doors

I have had a quick look at some of

the links, I found "Gordon" amongst them, now that would make a great Hornby offering, even in the Rail Road range. Travelled behind her on the Severn valley, and the Longmoor railway. Dream on Gary.

I have made a lot of the old Airfix wagon kits in my time and the wagon doors could be assembled open or closed, and did not look too overscale. OK

they were a bit more flimsy to be used as kids toys but with the Railroad range and the Thomas range picking up that end of the market there might be scope for some functionality. These kits are still made, but not by Airfix any more, if you wanted something

for a diorama of course.

Now why couldn't Hornby who own Airfix now think about going into this market again? I would support it.

Choobacca I love your lists, one area you have missed is the transcontinental range of wagons, there's the covered cement car and bogie hopper car with operating bottom doors like concett ore and grain wagons, two types of box cars with opening doors,

the cattle trucks with opening doors, early tipping log car and snow plough (with opening side wings).

i must say i like the idea of some things with open doors wagons etc but new gen DMUs with DCC open doors i am sure could be done but at what cost they would make a sound loco look cheep. opening doors on DCC better put lights in it and sound well your

at it a two car DMU would be way past £400 mark i am sure it would be a good model but no one would bay it. i have to say with a sad heart that hornby are in this game to make money nothing else so we might get lights and sound more and more in the future

but auto doors would be very costly and i am sure some on hear my afford it but not enough to make it cost affective or it would would have cost ed as a made to order loco.
