  1. Considering that Bachmann make/made the Great Northern C1 large boilered Atlantic. How about a North Eastern Atlantic as well as the North British machine. Thus giving a trio of pre Pacific East Coast express Locomotives. Not forgetting some appropriate coaching stock to compliment the locos.
  2. Anybody for Titfield.... OK it's not Lion/Thunderbolt, but sister loco Tiger. Seen here in front of "my" shed [shh from Bachmann]. It's hard to think they're both freight locos and that Lion/Tiger are only 9 [yes 9] years younger than Rocket of 1829 with Lion/Tiger built in 1838!
  3. Ok putting the "cat amongst the pigeons!" Re-introduce Nelly and her consorts Polly and Connie open_mouthyumhugging_face!

  5. What's so special you ask? Answer; the £ sign, as some seem to think eBay is a license to print money....
  6. Many here have mentioned the Railroader range. Which I [like some] look on as the budget/junior range. I say that as they allow those on a budget or the younger modellers to create something with a "flavour" of which ever big 4 outfit they're modelling. The one main thing I've notice though over recent times is that the price is becoming more and more expensive and not far short of the super detailed models.......
  7. Whilst it's great to see that Hornby are making another batch or two of Gresley Teaks. What I would like to have seen is some First and/or third class opens too. Of the thirds many have survived into preservation as they relatively easy to convert for other "departmental" uses being the equivalent of the modern BR Mk1s, 2s, 3s and so on. The same can be said of the other 3 of the big 4 companies too. Of course pre-war most used corridor stock. With the opens being for excursion trains or to make up extra trains at a busy time.

  9. It's not just the "train sets". Now that Hornby have announced that the LNER W1 10000 Hush Hush is on it's way. I've seen folk on eBay asking an assortment of prices. most start at around £220 and go up to the £250 [+/-] that Hornby are asking. Though there are some who are asking really silly money prices ranging from £325 to over £400! Things though there will be some out there that'll pay these silly OTT prices! With those asking these prices seeming oblivious to the lower prices being asked by the majority of sellers.
  10. Indeed over the last fortnight I've had issues with DpD. I placed a repeat prescription. I got the text giving an eta. Then another on the day "....Sorry it has been unexpectedly delayed", with a new date. once more another "....unexpectedly delayed" and another date, once again another delay. Only to be followed on with a message on the website of return to sender.... As it stands I'd re-ordered my stoma bags and got a text say expect a delivery on the 13th, 4-5pm. 4:15 "...Sorry we missed you" complete with a photo of the stair well. Pity the driver went to the wrong block of flats. I know it was the wrong block as the lights on the ground and 1st landing of my block have blown and are in semi darkness...... All the lights were on in the other block. Another delivery was attempted on the 14th and again "...Sorry we missed you" with a photo of the locked main door in the photo. As it stands you could/can see the other side of the stair well with the other door and intercom. Didn't bother going round. So how the driver expected to get in without using the intercom, I know not. They dropped the parcel off at the pharmacy by my GP instead.
  11. Don't worry even the "Big" railway had issues with mismatching of colours. Legend has it that Darlington North Road [former North Eastern main works] and Doncaster [The Plant former main works of the Great Northern] used slightly different shades of apple green! lso you'll have fade of the paint scheme over years out there in the big wide world.
  12. Evening Star has been painted green from it's entry into service in 1960 upto the present day........
  13. The shade of this or that colour as has been mentioned is a perpetual hot potato..... Speaking in this instance of LNER apple green. The Plant [Doncaster] had a slightly different shade to that used at North Road [Darlington]. Moving on and returning to 4472. Back in 1975 at the S & D 150 do at Shildon [is that event really nearly 50 years ago?!]I was a new [junior member of the North Eastern Locomotive Preservation Group owners of K1 [6]2005, which had recently [in 1974] returned to service in LNER Green. Much to the annoyance to one of the 4472 support group, NELPG's stand was beside 4472, anyway after this set too with one of NELPGs members, he noticed that the two front bogie wheels on the left hand side of the loco were different shades of green! So next day when the 'Scotsman Guy came by it was pointed out much to his dismay/disgust...............!
  14. As has been mention in other replies on various posts. You could have a look at some these free track plan, planners available online. Type in the term free track plans [or similar] into Google etc and it should return a selection of sites. They usually give a shopping list of track needed be it Hornby, Peco or any of a list of other compatible track suppliers.
  15. Indeed yes, the Yesterday channel is on Freeview/Freestat. Freeview is usually available on pretty well all modern Tellys as it's fitted as standard, if not you can still get "set top" boxes that you plug in between the aerial and telly. They can be connected in the same way as a video/dvd player, insomuch as you plug theaerial into the box and in turn plug the box into the telly's aerial socket. Granted you'll need to plug the 'box into the mains too for it's own power supply.
  16. Whilst, yes I totally agree. Didn't you know railways in the UK did not exist before the 1st of January 1948, when they came into spontaneous existenceopen_mouth! At least that's the way certain magazines would almost have you believe with their constant campaigning for this or that locomotive to be turned out in British Railways colours............
  17. For those interested in seeing these style lines in action. If you look on YouTube, you'll find an assortment of clips of amongst others the Bowes Railway in it's preserved form and a Feature by Amber Films made in 1974 just before the last rope work section closed. They are really quite interesting and make you wonder what the evil "Elf & Safety" people of today would make of the suggesting building/operating such lines today....... All very clever, especially the "self acting" inclines. They are where the full waggons are at the top and empties the bottom. Using a "return wheel" so both ends of the rope go down the bank. You'd hook the end at the top to the fulls and the other to the empties and use the extra weight to hal the empties up the bank.
  18. When the National Railway Museum put 6229 Duchess of Hamilton back into the streamlined [bathtub] condition they also restored a carriage of the same period into the red and go faster gold stripes.
  19. Indeed I can but echo Jimbo, an unusual model and great photo. Certainly a talking point at an exhibition.... Looking at it, have you used six wheel tender chassis, Tony?
  20. To add to my previous post about "crane tanks,"it wasn't just the industrial outfits that had them. The mainline outfits also had them too, granted they tended to be used at the various railway works. Rather than out and about hauling regular trains on the network, though they may have been used by the p.way department when working out on the line........
  21. OK adding my two penneth. Considering that Hornby have ventured into the industrial scene with their Pecketts' as well as Austerities [in recent years], how about a crane tank, like this one from Doxfords' shipyard. Southwick in Sunderland and seen preserved at the old museum at Dinting, run by the Bahamas Locomotive Society before it closed and they moved to the Worth Valley.
  22. Sticking with the LNER/East Coast operations [as that's where Mallard and Scotsman ran]. You just have to look at the roofs of the teak stock. The canvas covers were usually paint in the day with "White Lead". These days just like red lead paint it's banned and we use another type of white [usually fire retardant] paint. The thing is after a year or two in service, those white tops soon turned charcoal grey/black. So you could end up with a patchwork of colours..... [sooner they get rid of those dirty, smelly steam engines the better, if you ask me 😮 😛 😉!]
  23. As a Christmas present to myself a Bachmann 4mt 2-6-0 76079 via the 'Bay. So I now have all three NYMR owned Standard 4mts, 80135, 75029 The Green Knight and 76079. Yes I know there's another 4mt tank 80136 and 9F 92134 as well, I also have former Moors stalwart 69023, a very old Mainline J72 tank.

    Wishes for 2021.

Whilst I like the suggestions, so far. Which are mostly locomotives, as I've suggested previously when this "New Year" wish list has surfaced, how about some suitable rolling stock to accompany the locomotives. I'd love to see some clerestories for instance over and above those already available. The none corridor suburban carriages date way back to the sixties and are I believe based on a GWR design, there are also a pair of larger clerestories too, that have been turned out in both GW and Midland/LMS colours with printed beading, which disppears if they are repainted......The older noe corridor clerestorie have the beading and have been turned out in a variety of colours GW, Midland/LMS and LNER teak.
  25. I'd have a look at some of these track plan websites that chrissaf has suggested, and others. As they not only give you a few ideas, but also tend to have a "shopping list" of what in the way of track you'll need [they'll list Hornby, Bachmann and Peco part numbers]. For instance one website had an 8 foot by 4 foot [as that's what you appear to be thinking of] layout based on Gothland [Aidensfield/Hogsmead from Heartbeat and Harry Potter], which in turn as I've mentioned listed what you'd need trackwise.......... If you go down that road of a "heritage line," that'll let you run what ever you like in the way of "trains".
