  1. To day I recieved the last pair of Budd RDC-2 railcars needed for my collection, a powered and non powered of the Reading Lines livery made by Triang for the American ATT company. To make my collection complete all I need to find is a TransAustrailia version which are rare as Hens Teeth. Though the CN Livered one I currenty have needs the two orange door panels replaceing or a replacement unit.
  2. Hi My lastest buys are a S15 in SR Black and just had it confirmed a new air smoothed Merchant Navy class Royal Mail, iin SR Green.
  3. Hi Richard BR Mark 2 Brake Corridors 1st Class R Numbers 1973 - 1983 R726, R896, R922, R929, R969, R922, R418. All have a M (Midland) coach number, From R922 have silver seal wheels. As for running problems with new coach I would check on what Vespa wrote, and also slowly with a light hand push the coach through the points to try and see at what point the coach bogie is lifting off the point, it could be a wheel width issue, Silly question where in the train is the coach when it derails, near the loco or tail end charlie?
  4. Hi Update R4563 was made in 2013 from the Airfix tooling brought by Hornby in 1996 which was made around 1977 further looking has found R439 was used for NetWork SouthEast BR MK2 TSO (1968 version)
  5. Hi R439 is the original MK 3, 7 window coach used with the first HST power cars made in 1977. the only differance between first class and second class is the colour strip a long the windows. I have not go an upto date copy of ramsays model railway catalogue to find out when you new coach was made if you let me know what coaches you are after I will be able to give you some R numbers to look for. You can run modern locos and rolling stock on you set up as it would be 100 guage track which is todays standard.
  6. Hi My latest buy was a Transcontinental (ATT) Chesapeake and Ohio non powered RDC-2 Budd railcar. All I need to find now is a R832 powered and a R828 non powered Reading Lines version and my list is complete.
  7. Hi Just received my latest item, a Transcontinental Old Time Caboose R449, it almost perfect except for the broken chimmey stack, it will go well with my Davy Crockett loco and side tipping log train
  8. Hi Choralc Nice book, another book I would suggest to you is A historical Survey of Great Western Engine Sheds 1947 by E Lyons it covers all the loco sheds on the Great Western , From Old Oak with its 232 locos to the Much Wenlock with its two locos.
  9. I wonder if it is time to go back to a cast metal bogie rather than the plastic ones made today, going by the number of forum users comments
  10. Hi Today I brought my 5th Liveried Transcontinetal Budd Rail Car a Chesapeake and Ohio version,it will go well with both of my Transcontinental versions, one has internal lighting the other does not, the canadian national livered one and the ATT Santa Fa version. 12. Hi Having read LC's interesting coment, in view Hornby does a 4th radius is there not a need for a 4th radius point and diamond crossover as I can think of several senarios where such size curves would be needed?
  13. Hi There are four Transcontinental coaches Passinger car, Observation Car, Vista Car, Baggage Car. Available in Triang Railways Silver, Red and Silver and Blue liveries. These are just shells with no internal seating except for tiny seats in glazed area of observation car and in vista section. Series two again four Coacheswith full interiors, Passinger car, Diner car, Kitchen/Baggage Car Observation car, available in 19 different liveries many made for American, Canadian and Austrailian markets as well as UK market. Personnally I am still looking for 6 series 2 coaches, that are a complete 4 coach train in two tone green either Triang Railways or Transcontinental, a R4430 Bright silver and red Transcontinental Diner and a R4471 Bright silver and black CN diner.
  14. Hi I just wondering how many on this forum run transcontinental stock on their layouts, as I would like to hear from others as to what they like about it What I like about it is the operating elements like the bottom drop hopper wagons, the opening doors on a number of freight cars, flat beds with movable retaining pins along the side, the tipping log wagon that can be unloaded whist the train is moving. I also like the fact that dummy double cab locos were made so double or triple header looking trains could be run, the same as the F7 class with both dummy a units and b units. The Budd RDC-2 is the same both powered and non powered units were made.
  15. Hi My latest buys are 3 Wrenn R1s, LMS Red, LMS Black (Changed from BR black) and a BR Black. Very latest buy a Daplo Wessex Wagon Limited Edition "The Southern Counties Agricultural Trading Society Ltd" box van form the Mid Hant's Railway Wagon Group stand. very nice
  16. Hi My lastest buys are a R352 Transcontinental RCD-2 Budd with internal lighting plus a R232 RCD-2 Dummy Budd unit in very good condition but unboxed. Also a Wrenn Duchess City of Glasgow in BR Express Blue, to go with my City of Manchester also in Express Blue
  17. Hi WTD and Graskie Yes wrenn engines are great locos for us on DC, reliable serviceable motors with good pulling power, nice to handle with no fear of breaking anything on them . I now got 17 locos in my collection with 50+ trucks, all with triang MK3 couplings so can be used with my triang triang - hornby and hornby rolling stock.
  18. Hi all My latest purchase is another Wrenn 4 6 2 Coronation (Duchess/City) Class "City of Birmingham" in BR Green. Was brought as a poor runner but with a change of magnet and a clean and oil now goes a lot better Just two more to get, City of Glasgow in Blue and City of Liverpool in Maroon. There are 4 more I would like but are so rare I need a lottery win to afford them.
  19. Hi Today I went to the Reading Vintage toy fair, was fairly good as there was no thing new on sale (anything made after 1995 that is) I brought a 2 6 0 Davy Crockett, its complete and in a very clean condition, going to use it with my 5 side tipping wagons as a logging train, also a Transcontinental bogie tanker and operating bogie hopper wagon.
  20. Hi My latest buy is a Wrenn 4 6 2 Duchess Class "City of Manchester" in Express Blue Livery. It will look good pulling either a rake of Stainer coaches in BR Blood and Cream or BR Mark 1s in Blood and Cream livery. Tony
  21. Hi all, Today I recieved one of my most wanted locos, a R257 Triang Railway's double ended loco in two tone green with twin pamtographs (both are intact). Its a little tired looking but with a liitle work it will look great. All I need now is the complete 4 coach transcontinental in two tone green set to go with it. Tony
  22. HI LC&DR No it in original colour only name and number have been changed, They came in Maroon green and blue. I have 2 blue 2 green and 4 maroon 98 in total). In a previous comment you made about the lack of replacement pantographs on steeples cabs and EM2s, there have been several articals in the Hornby Mag this year showing EM2's with double collecting strips on their pantographs. I have 5 EM2s a couple with busted pantographs. What I have done is cut off the busted top half of the triang pantograph at the halfway horizontal pin and used the top half of a joulf pantograph which fits in the holes vacated by the pins perfectly, the effect is quite good likeness, had to do two transcontinental green and orange overheads as a trial run. I have looked at sommerfelt and other makes but they need major surgery to the roof to make them fit which I don't want to do. Thought this might be of some help.
  23. My latest buys are two blue dummy double cab transcontinental engines with MK111 couplings in play worn condition, I have rewheeled them with Hornby 14.1mm metal wheels with rimed brass pinpoint bearings as two wheels were busted, also a Trix/Lilliput Class 52 in maroon renamed Western Thunderer.
