Model Railway - What's your latest acquisition?
choralc replied to The son of Triangman's topic in General Discussion
Western Express ordered 31st October (!!!) finally arrived today on its third trip to the antipodes!!! (Order 7 of 7 4Dec15, also returned by courier to Hornby, still outstanding but all the ones in between have arrived.) About to add it to the RM loco list and run it in on the rolling road after the second of two R2990XS BR ' Helena Victoria 46208' completes its run. One had the little foam packing pieces in the cab and on top of the front bogie in place and both look wonderful. Thinking about transplanting the sound modules into LMS 4-6-2s but will enjoy them as is for the time being. -

November was a very expensive hobby month for me. Order #6 of 7 from Hornby arriving today (still waiting for the 1st and 5th to arrive) R3246TTS LNER 2-8-2 Cock o' the North - again I've been fortunate that the TTS locos run well on my rolling road R4601 Corridor Buffet Car - I like how heavy it is and that it came with alternate close couplers & yes I know it's BR Another R8245 Sapphire - at £16.66 I couldn't resist to help the order over the free delivery threshhold. Also, it came in a proper box filled with airbags and even the decoder was in bubble wrap. I wonder if my concerns regarding the new mailing cartons had reached them by then? -

R3296 LNER 4-4-0 D49/1 Hunt Class 'The Burton' from Locomotion Models/NRM as a Black Friday purchase. DCC fitted and a very nice model. Again I've been fortunate that they run well straight from the box (and speaking of which the item came in a decent sized mailing box). -

R3251 & R3252 The Great Goodbye Mallard & Dominion of Canada fitted with sound by DCC Concepts (2nd hand) and came with their very nice MPD storage boxes. The only one from the seller I didn't eventually get was R3256 Sir Nigel Gresley. Perhaps one day. -

R8211 Rolling Road :) and from Black Friday sales a RailRoad Flying Scotsman for gifting and three R8245 Sapphire decoders. I'm not a fan of the the new mailing cartons as one Sapphire packet was flat and some slight crushing to one corner of Scotsman box. Am letting Customer Care know my opinion but generally very happy with Black Friday Sale purchases. Only one other winge so far but will wait for eventual arrival of item. -

mjb, as both locos are from the same 'build-family' they both have the same wiring. The tender plug is wired to the the DCC socket in the tender hence the ease of transplant. I would suppose that any hornby tender with the connecting plug wired to the DCC socket and a speaker-well could have a TTS transplant. As an aside, I have asked Hornby to make the TTS modules available as a spare part to be fiitted into the same family of model as they were initially installed. After this success I might look again at my Clun Castle sound installation for transplant into, I hope, a similar build-family GWR Castle. I know double chimney sound sampling probably does not accurately represent a GWR one but they are my models :) -

TTS module transplant was too easy. Didn't need a tremor suppressant. Two screws under each tender body to remove them. Two screws holding the metal plate over the speaker enclosure. The blanking plate removed from KJ I and the TTS module removed and replaced into King James DCC socket. The speaker and plate fitted. New R8249 put into KR II and the plate re-fitted. Tenders replaced. Both recovered well from the transplant. To paraphrase ... The King is mute long sound the King. -

R3111 King James I and the Hornby Club t-shirt bundle that I used the club voucher for. Will have that anti-non-essential-tremor cider over the weekend to transplant the TTS module from KRII and glue back the broken sand-pipe. The GWR tender frame is lined so unfortunately not a straight tender body swap (as previously told to me) and again a lovely runner on my rolling road. -

R3370 TTS King Richard II 6021 arrived this morning by non-Aust. Post courier :) Ordered the 18th :) Smooth straight out of the box. :) Rear right sand pipe broken loose in the box :( which isn't too bad considering it came in a minimal mailing carton which is the best I can describe the outer. Will tackle it after a anti-non-essential cider soon. :) Yeah, yeah I know I wasn't going to buy two Kings to swap the TTS module but I managed to sell something after I purchased R1184 Western Express :) That was on the 6th and I'm still waiting on it :( but I know it will be soon :) -

I've managed to accrue a number of Hornby Terriers over Sep/Oct: LBSC Brighton 40, Picadilly 41, Waddon 54; SR W2, W11, W12; and GWR Portishead no.5. The seller of these also threw in another Waddon 54 that must have had a DFAGH (Dive From A Great Height) which only broke the mounting screw moulds inside the body and now runs really well so I might get it reliveried as GWR No.6. All potential DCC conversion candidates. A question though for the astute forumite: Is the collective noun for a group of A1Xs a pound. a kennel or as my good lady suggests a pack? -

After umming and ahhing about R3220 Tyseley Connection ‘Pitchford Hall’ Train Pack - Limited Edition 1000 or getting both R3370 BR 4-6-0 'King Richard II' 6000 Class with TTS Sound and R3331 GWR 4-6-0 ‘King James I’ 6000 Class - GWR to swap the TTS kit and sell on a soundless King Richard, I went to the Coming Soon page to pre-order the two Kings. My eyes were drawn to the R1184 Western Express Digital Train Set with eLink and TTS sound loco Set GWR Hall Class Ketley Hall. I have had positive experiences with the Gadwall and Flying Scotsman TTS locos so I went and gone and done it and made the pre-order for the Western Express and hope it will be delivered before Christmas but if it doesn't my birthday is three weeks later :) -

At the NSW AMRA exhibition today I picked up a Skale Regis station, a new Black 5 (Railroad Range), a Xuron cutter, some plasticard and some dogs and cats (in separate packets of course. We decided against wallabies/kangaroos and sulphur crested cockatoos.) Back tomorrow. We were about 300 in the line to enter and when we left 3.5 hrs later we felt like two in a thousand. -

Thank you Yozzer. I got a 15% discount code from Hornby because they couldn't supply one spare part in my last order. I will consider this train pack just for the loco :) -

Thanks Yozzer for describing the coaches as warning sign free but is the loco also warning sign free. I'd keep the loco for my GWR fleet if it was sign free :) -

I considered the Tylsley pack and thought about what I would do with the BR coaches but more importantly is there any of those warning signs on the loco for electrified wires? -

R2925 Clam Macgregor fitted with after-market sound decoder and some wagons. To make up for that on-line auction site not allowing a further postage discount he threw in some more near new and new wagons and a Tornado with issues. Tornado turns out to be R3245. Yes TTS. Four extra wagons and a TTS for $12.50. Very generous. I will post more about this loco in the DCC section as it needs help. -

R.474 and R.475 LMS coaches. Box ends aren't pretty but the two coaches were near to mint. Look good on display behind the 'bat-train'. /media/tinymce_upload/46f87909310397f6a35aacc490e57708.jpg -

I chose the model when adding the loco to my list and when I clicked on the default settings button it came up with Steam 1 which was generally wrong. I have since read the forum about re-updating RM even though I have the latest Revision but since I have already inputted the functions I'll wait for the next listed revision. Again even though the loco has travelled thousands of km it has worked well straight away though I did do a short run in on DC before using the run-in on rolling road program using RM. -
