  1. Hi all I have now received a definitive answer from Hornby, which states: "The R8211 Rolling Road will be compatible with DCC, the Amazon listing is incorrect. This issue has been caused as there was an older version of the Rolling Road (R8203) which was not suitable."
  2. @walkingthedog Thanks and I agree but that well known mail order co beginning with A says it is not compatible and someone responded above agreeing - I just could not understand why for the reasons you have stated.
  3. Hi all Does anyone use the Rolling Road that could advise me whether it is compatible with DCC. (I have since received a response from Hornby who say, they 'cannot see why it would not be compatible' but have not provided me with a definite answer) - the only thing I can think is that it may contain the capacitor that is required on DC but DCC. If that is the case, I can easily remove it.
  4. @LMSTim Thank you very much for your detailed response. I have been waiting for someone to come back with comments about someone else's suggestion. In particular, I personally have been concerned and unconvinced by the API suggestion. The discovery one, I had thought was a reasonable idea but I was not aware of the time it may take to discover a loco. (Computers normally do things pretty quickly) I started this thread off because I hoped that people may have suggestions to make but I do not believe it is for me ALONE to be discerning about what goes on the list. DCCtinker has made some valuable points about the suggestions by PeterCook and this is the type of discussion I had hoped this thread would raise. Ideally, I would like to submit a list to Hornby that has the blessing of the forum community, ideally as a whole, rather than just individuals. My reasoning behind posting the combined list was to get comments on it, both positive and negative. Incidentally, I don't think that you should assume that the developers will make the improvements you would like to see. Maybe you could add the odd one or two to the list. Thanks again,
  5. I have another one to add: The command to switch lights on or off, just toggles the present setting, so if the lights are on, it switches them off and vice versa. I would like to see 2 separate commands. One to switch lights on and one to switch them off. (Unless anyone can suggest why Hornby have set it up like this?)
  6. @koo9 Thanks again, I have just checked the A advert again and it states that it is NOT suitable for DCC. Pity that because I have a voucher to spend but I still cannot understand why insulation makes any difference between DCC and DC.
  7. @koo9 Thank you for your help. That's difficult though because I was intending to buy (new) by Mail Order from that well known organisation with 6 letters, beginning with A. I must admit though, thinking about it, I do not understand why DC or DCC makes any difference to the design and insulation. The only thing I thought about when I started to read your post, was that a DC version may have a capacitor across the terminals similar to the power rail connectors and that it would need to be removed for DCC. This change I would happily make. Do you know if the box states that the item is compatible with DCC, so that I could at least ask before purchasing?
  8. Could someone advise please if the R8211 is suitable for use with DCC. I cannot see why it may not be but one advert I saw stated it was not. Also, has anyone used one?
  9. @David55 Is it anything to do with the 'cruise' speed or 'shunt' speed setting that may be pre-allocated? As far as I know, the class 37 is a much faster loco than the class 20 and RailMaster probably only takes the loco up to the pre-allocated speed so by re-allocating a different loco type it will run at that loco's speed. I guess though that it was more realistic before?
  10. @Graskie Can I just try and understand your comment about regions as I do not use that part of RailMaster myself. If there is only one region that can be applied at once, how would RailMaster be able to display the particular region you set for each loco, or do people who do use this only have one region. If this is the case do you want RailMaster to allow you to set a default region?
  11. Hi all, It is almost a month now since I raised this topic and I guess I had expected a few more suggestions by now. I thought it may be worth adding another suggestion of mine, if only to bring the topic back up to the top. - It is possible to adjust the zoom level of the track layout from the main screen but there is currently no possibility of changing the default zoom level. Over the next few days I will compile and post a summary of the suggestions received so far to make sure that what I submit to Hornby, is what people expected. In the meantime though, please continue to add your thoughts.
  12. I became aware of the recommendation not to use 1st Radius curves shortly after I had purchased some. However, whilst I tend to build a similar type of layout on a piece of 8' x 4' Sundeala board each time I put it down, I am sure that it is never exactly the same. I do not fasten the track down and I have lots of standard Hornby points (R8072 & R8073, which I think are also 1st Radius). I have no flexi track. All my track is Hornby. I tend to build 4 ovals (1st to 4th Radius) with points to get from one oval to the next and with some sidings in the middle. I run Class 08, Class 20, Class 37, Class 47, a Smokey Joe, and a Duchess of Gloucester. In my experience and maybe I am just fortunate but the only loco of mine that will not successfully negotiate 1st Radius is the Duchess of Gloucester (R2386). It is DCC, operated from an Elite and RailMaster and incidentally, I only use one power connection which is on the 4th Radius oval.
  13. Hi all, In another thread on the Railmaster Forum, I have been discussing with Fishmanoz, the idea for a Desirable Features list that could perhaps be formed here by members and then forwarded to Hornby. Would there be support for such a list? I have started to jot down a few suggestions that I will add over the next few days but I would like to start with: 1) Railmaster to indicate when communication has been lost with the Elite.
