  1. I like the finish on the Sea Vixen, Pmm. Well done. Did you use the markings [transfers] from the kit? I ask because I did on mine and had some real problems, especially with the long ROYAL NAVY decal which just curled up to a useless bundle.
  2. This is a great post. I’m really enjoying seeing such a variety of models - thanks to all. Here’s a few more from my garage hangar. Note that I do tend to use alternative markings from those supplied with the kit. /media/tinymce_upload/e82929652b34b6796f9b2ddc3725b5e1.JPG Canopy painted freehand and squadron codes [60 Sqn, India] applied w/o a decal solution - must do better next time. /media/tinymce_upload/c5ff02d11d3e68f806ecf6b3f264e4b4.JPG /media/tinymce_upload/ddced090ca5f6fff075a30c3ec2e0aac.JPG I have to admit that the Fulmar has been included just for variety. It still requires further work as you can see. Looks quite at home on the wooden deck though :-)
  3. Can I add this one .... /media/tinymce_upload/9e3e9a5d9a8d7775b59c6032a96d0816.JPG/media/tinymce_upload/1fc80954fb108327ecd9e16528cb0e4e.JPG
  4. I agree with Peter s. Here is my view of the area behind the pilot on Just Jane .... /media/tinymce_upload/d5ab1983dfc8ffd90a31ec093a5b5da9.JPG All black !
  5. Is this the page you got to with the link? /media/tinymce_upload/37b5dd7466f4ca5e37f014ec394edb3d.PNG It shows that I too do not have the required permissions. However, I could still open the pdf file by clicking the PDF Link.
  6. Whatever the case with the transfers, you have given us a really good pointer to the build of one of the iconic aircraft of the RAF. Thank you very much for sharing this with us.
  7. Well i must say I like the finish. But I also have to say that the Sherry autopilot fairing looks a little like a carbuncle. I’ve checked some pictures of the real thing and can appreciate that it’s not easy to create this fairing from scratch. In my opinion, this looks a good model and I like the pairing of it’s potential enemy. Thank you for sharing.
  8. i really like the thought and quality of finish that has gone into the final scenario. It’s a shame the depth charges look like wire-guided bombs, but I appreciate that it’s not easy to portray dropping ordnance in a scene such as this. That said, the finish on the aircraft is very well done. Thank you for sharing this with us.
  9. Looks good. I recently obtained one, so this is a timely post to make me get on and build it. Thanks for sharing it, and the comparison.
  10. You’re very welcome, glad to be of help. Bear in mind though that these pictures were taken on the restored ‘909’, which has sadly since crashed.
  11. I am enjoying your build posts, tank you for taking the trouble to share them. I thought I would share some pictures of the inside of a B-17 that I had the chance to fly in a little while ago. They show the nose area and the top of the ball turret [i wasn’t allowed in it during the flight]. /media/tinymce_upload/a2ba605a93f79926fe301bdd38067cf5.JPG /media/tinymce_upload/b469891fc18e749c6a0449f039bca8bd.JPG /media/tinymce_upload/88c3f1f6f12828a29999e60a284fcd3c.JPG
  12. The point to note here, for me anyway, is that the Humbrol range do not contain exact matches for specific colours. There are a number of specialist manufacturers who can provide better colour matches, so for RAF/FAA aircraft that use British Standard colours, check out the BS reference in the above mentioned publications and then look for the appropriate model paint suppliers. You don’t Have to use a Humbrol paint for an Airfix kit. /media/tinymce_upload/6d729a86c4a11a46d130ffd5986d7c9b.PNG
  13. Heather, further to your model in the markings of 40 Squadron, I wondered if you had a copy of the DP Casper sheet giving markings for aircraft participating in Operation Dynamo [Dunkirk]? I ask because it includes markings for a 40 Squadron Blenheim IV amongst other 1940 aircraft.
  14. Good one. I like this model. A good one to start on for rigging apparently.
  15. I have a 1/72 Spitfire & I like it. /media/tinymce_upload/8da67771ff6c3d94983e5e13c76a2cf6.png
  16. They are both in the New for 2020 listing, along with other gems.
  17. Heater, don‘t underestimate the impact of your posts. I for one have a similar interest in 1940 aircraft/markings and I don’t think I am alone in this. It;s really interesting and an inspiration to see some of the models you produce. The benefit of a website like this is that we can share information that we might not all have access to. Alternatives to the common 49 Sqn for Hampdens are an attraction. It’s a shame that some of them are not as accurate as they could be.
  18. Disregard my previous comment. I had not had a chance to check references. The Red Kite Hampden Squadrons has a couple of photos of 7 Squadron aircraft, albeit the same aircraft, and they have created a colour profile on the back cover. All letters are large and of the same size. What this suggests is that the Avalon letters are indeed too large. There is a degree of overlap around the top and bottom fuselage, but not as much as can be seen on Heather’s model. Pity as this is a great model.
  19. To add another thought into the code letter debate, 7 Squadron famously used a reduced size of squadron codes on their Stirlings, even though the individual aircraft code was [perhaps] normal size. Could it be that the squadron code size from the Hampdens were carried over to the Stirlings? If so, that might confirm a smaller size for the Hampdens. Just a thought,,,
  20. Heather, For what it’s worth, the pictures I posted recently of the Airfix Battle showed the basic kit with a new nose from Valiant Wings. There were no other mods. I was quite pleased with the result.
  21. This is one.of those very helpful builds that I really look forward to. Thank you. As for the subject, I do have a desire to build the MiG 19, and hope, one day, it make appear on these pages.
  22. I enjoyed following the build. The final result was excellent, in my opinion. Thank you. Looking forward to the next version.
  23. Fair point. I will say that those colours for the propeller hub were based on a traditional assumption, not fact. So obviously there was room for error. The other point to note was that the kit was modified with the Valiant Wings nose to replace the standard kit item. No other changes [rudder etc.] were mase to the kit. I was happy with the result.
  24. Chris, Thanks for the compliment, and thank you for that line of thought. It’s one I will gladly hang on to.
