  2. Hi Jeff Well done Aussi Jeff, and I see you're climbing the learning curve very well Can't wait for your next adventure and more lessons. How did you cut the cannopy or was it already in two parts? Your effort at painting the inside frames of the cannopy was very brave and a credit to your steady hand. Just hope your Spitfire doesn't feel like an ugly duckling next to a nice new Hurricane. You do seem the building up quite a nice collection of WW2 single seater fighters. You'll soon have to make another 800 km trip trip the rate you're going, but I see you still have a Lancaster to go. So another interesting build coming up. Remember we do this for fun John the Pom
  3. Hi Jeff That cockpit looks pretty dark so the paper IP might be adequite or you could scan it into a computer dicky it up a bit then print it out and use that. I did that when doing my Ju 52 float plane. As for moving parts I always considered these as play-value from the early days. I now know longer consider my models as toys so usually esque this moving parts fixing them into a posed possition, I even often glue the propellers, as if they turn someone WILL turn then (Usually me) and sooner or later they WILL break. Looking forward to your Catalina adventure and good luck. Remember we do this for fun John the Pom
  4. Thanks Paul for the heads-up on the Chaika. Yes; the Finnish one does sound interesting. Remember we do this for fun John the Pom
  5. Did my rounds to our LMS's, the original idea was to get some new paints. Came home with 3 new Vallejo colours, four scaple blades, (These seem to be getting hard to find in Cape Town looks like I'll have to find a medical supplier and buy a whole box.) and 2 sheets of Decal Paper. Also picked up 3 Zvezda kits all 1/72 armour the BMW motor cycle & side car (Made this last year, superb little kit; but that one's now stuck on a diorama.), a Soviet 37 mm AA gun and a British Bofors 4o mm AA gun to go with my growing collection of artillary. Also tempted by a couple of old Revell 1930's fighters the P26 Peashooter and the Polikarpov I-153 Chaika. I know the P26 dates from the 60's but it still looks pretty good; maybe Revell are taking really good care of their old moulds. The Chaika looks more recent maybe 80's-ish as the detail is recessed and raised and the sprues have a frame arond them. I seem to be getting an interest in these pre WW 2 aircraft, after my recent fasination with WW 1 types. These should look good next to the re-released Bulldog and Demon, and my few Heller 1930's aircraft kits. 6. As I said welcome to the modelling human race. Remember we do this for fun John the Pom
  7. Or you were just over-come with all that expectation. anyway "To Er Is Human." welcome to the human race. Seems we have some interesting adventures to read about in the near future. Remember we do this for fun. John the Pom
  8. Hi Patrick. Firstly Happy Birthday And hope you have a sunny Christmas same as our forecast in Cape Town. Remember we do this for fun John the Pom
  9. Hi Andy M. I know Model Railroad Specialists have the ones your looking for. Not sure of the postage from Cape Town though. Good luck and hope you find what you're looking for. Remember we do this for fun John the Pom
  10. Or the Italian WW 2 fighter schemes give me the hee-bee's. Maybe an easier way to do WW 1 losenge patterns is to make some decals in a drawing program. It's a lot easier than painting, and I can get a whole A4 sheet printed for less than 20P ( R. 10) plus the cost of decal paper. the joy is that once you have th basic losenge pattern you can easily change the colours for upper and lower surfaces and or 4 and 5 colour patterns. Just remember to get the printer to set the colour to maximium. Remember we do this for fun John the Pom
  11. Great more dioramas in the pipe-line. Remember we do this for fun John the Pom
  12. Hi Jeff. Hope your shopping spree goes well. Possibly the best gloss black is done with matt black then a gloss varnish applied over it. As I know some gloss colours can be a bit awkward. Matt seemingly seens to cover more easily. Remember we do this for fun John the Pom
  13. Hi LeonF Glad you like the smaller scale AFV's & soft-skins if you see any of the old ESCI kits don't hesitate but snap them up you might be very surprised especially as they're no over 25 or more years old. Also have you tried any Roden army stuff, more challenging than Airfix but a much gtreater range. Remember we do this for fun John the Pom
  14. Hi Leone You must like Braille scale armour, good-on-yeah. I'm interested in what you make of the venerable Bristol F2 B, I made this kit at the start of this year (See my post Making some Old Dogs) Are you going to try the rigging? Ratch also made this kit a few months back. If you fancy a challenge try the Roden version, I've just finished that one as a nightfighter, took me 3 weeks. Looking forwards to seeing the results, and keep them coming. Remember we do this for fun John the Pom P.S. Have a Merry Christmas. JtP
  15. Hi Ratch. I echo GNR Gordon's request. I always look at your small figure painting and I'm always impressed at the level of detail you manage to get in such small figures, even though I don't always comment. All I can say is you must have very good eye sight, a very steady hand and the patience of Job. Painting that many small figures would drive me up the wall, even just thinking abouit it makes me shiver. So well done on your Waterloo set and keep them coming. 16. The list above look very like the 2018 wish lists but I would second and third the call for a new 1/72 Ju 88, but please try the C series or the BMW engined night fighters, as the A series seem to be a dime-a-dozen with every Tom-Dick-&-Harry and their cousins doing it almost to the exclusion of other marks. Basically any 1938 to 45 german aircraft would sell, after all how many Bf 109E does Remember we do this for fun John the Pom
  17. Friday 2nd Nov Auction night this evening at the Cape Peninsular IPMS here in Cape Town and reduced my stash by 3 models the Airfix HMS Warspite, and focke Wulf Mistrel ( Fw 190 A with the Ta 154 ) and a Revell (Ex matchbox) Swordfish, But I had to come away with something. I was hoping someone would donate the old Airfix Do 17E/F, but again not this year but I did pick up a very old Vintage Airfix kit almost as old as me. The old Airfix Historical Ships Revenge still in it's original plastic bag & header. The only thing not original was the Check List. I'll post pictures in the Shipsforum next week but a scan of the header will have to do for now. /media/tinymce_upload/9fca16e864ac52947db3115e5eb796cd.jpg The decals look a bit shot; I'll have to get some new ones printed; but the printed ratlines are there, should be fun. Are lots of memories flooding back??? Remember we do this for fun John the Pom
  18. Hi Ratch Yeah! I thought so . Maybe it’s time to start a new forum “Miscellaneous”, for all those odd Airfix kits that don’t really fit anywhere.. Remember we do this for fun John the Pom
  19. Hi Ratch Thank for posting the Long Taxal again & good to see you've completee the Mogal. I see you've done a series of photos, but why in the cars forum, but thinking about it were else could you have put it. I was wondering how did you do the lining? I see there's a mapping pen in one photo did you use that with masking for the straight line. Whichever way you did it it looks superb and again thanks for the posting of this unusual subject. 20. The lists above look very like the 2017, 18 wish lists, but I would second and third the call for a new 1/72 Ju 88, but please try the C series or the BMW engined night fighters, as the A series seem to be a dime-a-dozen with every Tom-Dick-&-Harry and their cousins doing it almost to the exclusion of other marks. Basically any 1938 to 45 German aircraft would sell, after all how many Bf 109E does a modeller really want to build. Remember we do this for fun John the Pom
  21. Hi Ratch. Looks like a nice clean build, you seem to have had no difficalties with this build. I made a couple of those old Loco kits way-back-when both Airfix & Kitmaster, and found them very enjoyable as they went together with little fuss, just that some of the painting took a very steady hand and time.(Boiler bands on the French Mountain and Evening Star.) At one point I thought you were motorising the loco but a second look I saw I was mistaken. Thanks again for showing this build it brought back some memories. Looking forwards to seeing the Mogal doing some work on the Taxal. Remember we do this for fun John the Pom
  22. Looking forward to your build. Remember we do this for fun John the Pom
  23. Hi T2B. Looks like you're going to be busy, busy, busy. Looking forwards to your views on the Gustav and how it builds. Remember we do this for fun. John the Pom
  24. Not real;ly a latest acquisition but I ha to make some Decals for the Revell E-III. ( I seem to be in a WW.1 mode again.) Using a scan of the old decals and Coral Draw new decals were soon done also added some Airfix E-!! & E-III decals to the art work. I now have an A5 sheet of WW.1 Decals to add to my collection. Cost R.5 that’s about 25 p. plus the cost of the decal paper. Also added a selection of Vallejo Browns to my palette as I'm looking at some British WW.1 aircraft in my stash. Very few new kit coming to SA at the present, the exchange rates just too high. Remember we do this for fun John the Pom
  25. Hi Ratch I was wondering what had happened to your taxal, glad to see it's back, and with another unusual build of a vintage Airfix kit. This should be interesting, I wa wondering if you'd put a loco in there some where. looking forwards to the continueing story. Remember we do this for fun John the Pom
