Try using stretched sprue to rebuild them. If they ae only struts and not loadbearing it should not be a problem. Challenge yourself!

No, the instructions didn't specify the weight required. As always I taped the basic model together, fuselage, main wings and tail wings. They I blue tacked short bits of toothpick where the u/c legs would go and added weight till the model sat properly. You have to un-tape and re-tape the fuselage each time to add / reduce weight. I didn't tape the engines on at this stage as they would help shift the centre of gravity forward and thus would provide an additional safety margin.
For masking the various colours I use Tamiya tape which is readily available here.

Well...... we had a paper plane sculpture outside our international (for international read only)..... airport. So you could build the paper plane as a model of that! 🙂

An amazing amount of dust still gets into my model showcases glass doors and all. Sometimes I wish that the April Fool's joke article in Scale Models Magazine some 20 years ago was true. They said you could buy little boxes full of dust mites that you would let loose in your showcase and they would eat up all the dust on your models leaving them looking pristine.😄

Not a ship I know ...... but just ordered this. I've been after one for a good 50 years but always baulked at the fact that the only one available was to 1:72. At least I don't have to build an extension to my house for the 1:144 version. Hope it get here soon......

Hi AirportsEd, I wouldn't know. Planes are not really my thing. I suspect it isn't a 500 because the windows don't quite match the drawing I'm using. The decals in my kit were old, yellowed and unusable. Moreover, I liked this particular BA colour scheme. I mentioned earlier I build planes, tanks etc as a break from scratchbuilding my liner models and as a way of improving my model making skills. Hence I'm not too fussy about details. If it were a liner then I would be very fussy. With aircraft, If it looks the part then I'm happy.

Got my compressor going again .....though it failed again after half an hour!........ I think I was in too much of a hurry to fix it and didn't prepare the parts properly to receive the epoxy. Done it again, so it should be fine in another couple of days.
I did however manage to treat the dark patches on the DC10's wing with more aluminium paint. Those were areas where I hadn't quite finished airbrushing the other day before the compressor failed.
I also painted the first couple of coats of white to the fuselage of the Tristar. I'll let it dry till Sunday before applying the final coat.
The undercarriages for both aircraft are painted and all ready to assemble.
Masking the Wings was a chore .... I think next time around I'll pinch a could of plastic bags my wife uses in the kitchen and place the each wing into one bag and simply tape down the edge where it meets the fuselage. Can't believe I've never thought of doing that before!

A number of factors contribute to this. First and foremost more people seem to be interested in aircraft. Even then, more are interested in warplanes and hence we get fewer civilian types and more warplanes.
Secondly, 1:700 and 1:350 seem to have cornered the market. Besides the Airfix "fleet" I only know of a very few 1:600 ship models and most of those are 1950's / 60's examples where detailing is a far cry from the standard expected today.
I find I'm the odd one out still building to 1:600. No problem though. I like the scale. Not too big like 1:350 and neither too small like 1:700. I've bought all the 1:600 types I could lay my hand on but for the last 15 years or so have concentrated on liners...... this has basically mean scratchbuilding.
However, I will shortly start building a kit of the Airfix SS France I acquired but this time I'll build it as the Norway. (I already have a France). Should make an interesting pair. I will probably start a thread and post the build on-line ....... but at the rate I build it will probably take me some 4 or 5 months!

Today I airbrushed the aluminium finish. metallic finishes really show up all the defects! Sometouching up required. I'm happy with the panel lines on the wings but not so happy with the circular ones on the fuselage ...... Still, you live and learn!
Unfortunately my compressor broke down again. My fault. I left it working for too long and it overheated. WIll have to sort it out tomorrow but it wont be back in action for a few days after I apply the epoxy to the eccentric cam. That's going to push my programme back by a few days.
