  1. I keep promising myself I'll select a shake 'n bake from the stash (there's loads to choose from), but it rarely happens. This Thunderbird 1 was a mash up of two quite old Imai kits. Two were required, because on their own they were meant to be a push along toy and parts had to be cannibalised from two kits to get the one. Sometimes the kit might be more recent, but still needs some work to get it scrubbed up properly, such was the case with this newish Airfix Bf109. It's meant to be a 'G', but remove the fictitious cannon bulges and you have something more like an 'F', plus mix and match some decals and you have Black Six. Old Frog kits, love 'em. I acquired this Bristol 138 a few years ago, the decals were shot, but Rising Decals to the rescue. The cockpit is a bit bare, but the pilot figure, a simple panel and stick and you're up and running. It actually went together relatively well, with a minimum of fettling. Nurse! Nurse! I need my meds...
  2. I've found zip evidence of hedge cutters in use in Normandy and it's not for want of trying!
  3. Airfix commissioned Academy to do the tooling, that's why it's showing up as Airfix tooling on Scalemates.
  4. I think a portion of the flight deck with perhaps some of the tower would do me!
  5. The scene depicts an actual event when a Tiger Moth was landed on a carrier. I believe it used the full length of the deck rather than the angled part and took place in the early to mid sixties.
  6. I wondered if there might have been a six bolt wheel, but a search online came up with no evidence either documentary or pictorial. The Crusader had similar running gear and also has eight bolt wheels. As a daily CAD user I can easily imagine how such an error might occur, the surprising thing is that no one noticed pre-production. Sovereign 2000 do a replacement wheel set with the correct number of bolts.
  7. The Mosquito Museum show which is on the 19th May and Essex Modellers on 28th July. After that I'm not sure, apart from Scale Model World in November.
  8. There's a show diary on the IPMS pages.
  9. AZ Model have four SR 53 kits on their catalogue with prototype and what-if schemes. It's not a knockoff, it was new tooling in 2017, see here.
  10. Modelcollect Waffentragers. The Reichenberg was robbed from the Heller combo that includes a Natter and I used the Natter boosters to add a semblance of plausibility to the idea of launching off of such a short rail. I still have a couple of 'tragers in the to-do pile. Modelcollect kits are rather good, but they're increasingly difficult to get hold of in the UK.
  11. Have you tried viewing on another device? A support ticket could be raised, but I'd suspect there's something in your machine/browser settings that is the issue. If you click on 'other media' then 'insert existing attachment', you should be able to navigate to an image and then drag it into the text editor.
  12. The menu will be different according to status on the board. The edit function will only be visible during the time it's available to use.
  13. It will be a setting in the Invision control panel, it can be unlimited or time limited (in my experience with Invision forums). The navigation here is clumsy, I don't get a front page list of forums/sub-forums that I can click into, or am I missing something?
  14. For small, delicate parts and transparencies I use either a PE micro saw (top), or razor saw (bottom). A single sided cutter/nipper is also an option, although the quality ones come at a price, such as this one by DSPIAE.
  15. Looks very smart, plus a proper text editor.
  16. Because it's a Lidl special and would have been heavily discounted.
  17. It's akin to using a blunt instrument to bludgeon someone to death. I have no issue with covering large areas with an airbrush, it's all down to how you use it. I get that not everybody wants, or has the wherewithal to invest in an airbrush.
  18. The Invision software is tons better than the current platform.
  19. I think you'll find the problem for editors is actually getting their hands on articles suitable for publication and the articles they do get are a reflection on what modellers generally are building. The most popular genres? Probably aircraft and AFVs. Ever thought of authoring ship articles? You'd probably get your arm ripped off if you were to offer something suitable.
  20. I switched to acrylics because other modellers I know whose opinions I valued were telling me that enamels were old hat and that acrylic was the way forward, but they were talking about spirit and lacquer acrylic, not aqueous. I was put off because of previous experience with aqueous acrylic, but once I tried other acrylic media I didn't look back. With lacquers you can paint, wait 20-30 minutes for it to set, mask, re-paint, remove masking, job done. I take my hat off to anybody that's mastered the art of getting aqueous acrylic to stick and neither rub off with handling nor peel with masking.
  21. Original 'baggies' go for about £30, I doubt that particular issue would fetch more than £10-15. I'd build it, but that's just me.
  22. I've not read the blurb, but for sure the surface will need to be thoroughly degreased before applying any paint. Having said that nothing is likely to convince me that aqueous acrylic paint has enough adhesion to survive much handling and especially masking if applied over bare plastic.
