  1. SoT, With my basic understanding of electronics I think the answer is no. The wiring diagram I have, and what I have built, needs a positive feed to the Sensor Unit and the same feed is split to the mimic led. The negative pin of the led connects back to the output of the sensor. My circuit works without any additional resistors but the schematic I received showed a nominal resistor between the mimic led and the sensor. Stating the obvious but a negative connection for the power source also needs to go to the Sensor unit. I bought a dedicated 5V power unit.
  2. Mike, I am also using those "detectors" in a four lane Siding I am building on to my layout. The sidings are fed from a cluster of points and I have a turntable at the far end. I have cut slots in the baseboard near each end and will fix the detectors under the baseboard and hopefully they will register when a "train" is over the slot. I will have to remove the sleepers that would otherwise cover the slots. I have connected the unit output to led's on a mimic panel. I should perhaps add that the sidings are in an adjacent room out of sight! I probably will be buying a cheap video camera to help me see what's happening. I am presently fabricating wiring looms but getting close to assembling and will post some photos once the track is laid.
  3. Simmo009, JJ has three Suspension Bridges in another section of his layout and although I think curved Girder Bridges are available, or certainly could be self built, given JJ's demonstration of his DIY skills that is not a solution I would support. JJ, I cannot understand your way of thinking. You have gone to all that trouble to assemble a layout and then put your "models" at serious risk of damage by leaving out a piece of board in each of those two corners. You should also consider fixing some sort of guard/upstand along any exposed edges where anything could topple off the layout.
  4. Stephen in Kerry, Shows as an invalid link for me. Wait and see if others have better luck? Ah ha, second attempt has worked.
  5. Will Hay, My very basic knowledge of Stay Alives suggest a six second push would be a huge component, and for that matter also a three second one. Would you please be so kind as to post further details.
  6. In the Azuma finally here thread on Sunday 16 Jan Chrissaf and I discussed whether Hornby honour Pre-Order prices. I sent an email to Hornby, received an acknowledgement, bumped it a couple of times, still no answer so eventually called [which I was reluctant to do as I am hard of hearing]. The lady who answered stated that she thought the promise was written in the T&C's, I said no it isn't, but she confirmed that Hornby would/do honour the pre-order price.
  7. OoP, Why would you cover the whole board with gravel mats? Really depends on what your layout is: have you got any scenic areas that may be grass/fields/ roads/ houses/etc? On my layout I painted the various areas with appropriate "background" colours and then applied ballast after I had laid the track. I also cut and laid strips of cork under the tracks, and whilst I am delighted with the end result, it is time consuming. Why don't you post a picture of your layout and you may get responses better tailored to your situation?
  8. Not often I disagree with 96Raf but I cannot accept that a "bit of fettling" is okay on a new model, even without considering the cost of this particular model. I don't have one but do have the double blast pipe on pre-order and I will be expecting it works correctly straight out of the packaging.
  9. Sorry JJ but not for me, the video that is. Watching them go round, and round, and round, etc at speed makes me dizzy and nauseous.
  10. You also need to consider how the numbers of Complainers raising concerns on this Forum relate to the Sales/Customers of Hornby. In the case of the Hush Hush was the damaged percentage 1%, 5%, greater? It has been mentioned many times on this forum that satisfied Customers rarely post. I haven't made a list, better things to do, but I think you'll find there are not that many members making the complaints - multiple posts by the same people.
  11. You also must give consideration to the turntable you are placing to service the Roundhouse [i am assuming that is the normal installation]. The Hornby turntable for example has very coarse [wide] angles between adjacent "arms".
  12. @Chrissaf, Is the honouring the Pre-Order price official? A few days ago I sent an email to Hornby asking them to confirm, but as we all know replies are sometimes taking quite a while.
  13. @MAW78 I've got it on pre order from a model shop so just waiting for them to get their stock and work through the list. It did let me add one to the basket on hornby site but that's as far as I went cause next steps payment lol. And the point of the above is what? Is the Model shop giving it to you free? I understand you have to provide payment details to Hornby but money is not "taken" until dispatch.
  14. @ColinB, I bought the catalogue today it is easier to read in a catalogue, these steam models aren't due until 4th quarter, Perhaps progress has been better since the catalogue was approved for printing. This website, right now, states the R3983SS is due Summer 2022. Officially in the UK Summer is 21st June to 23rd September - I would call that the 3rd quarter! But, as you suggest, we might be lucky if it turns up as a (belated?) Christmas present.
  15. @ XJR1300, I for one make several grammatical and spelling mistakes when posting on forums, but then again I don't criticise Hornby's quality very often. You might want to review and edit your 15:49 posting.
  16. I have placed a pre-order based on the item having a fitted sound decoder and will leave the pre-order unless Hornby clearly state this is not the case. If no statement is forthcoming and the loco arrives without a decoder it shall be returned and I would expect Hornby to give a full refund, as they have done for a couple of returns in the past [the Class 20TTS as an example due to very poor quality].
  17. @ Corky, Are you resident outside of the UK? The OP is talking about a purchase outside of the UK. I had assumed the OP is resident in the UK and buying from a Supplier in Europe and thus importing, he may be resident in Europe and is simply asking about warranties!
  18. To follow up Rana's comments; there are plenty of government advice lines on the internet explaining VAT & Customs liabilities. I can't recall the details but think VAT might be charged on goods above £15 or £18 and the Custom's Duty threshold is around £125 but please check for yourself.
  19. W1's - not now. All out of stock or pre-order
  20. ML/Vespa, I thought this had been raised before, possibly in the Forum & Website Feedback section, but I cannot find the thread. Maybe a Mod, if they have better search facilities, will take a look? Mod note: We don't anything better 'search wise' than what is availble to all. It is also dire for mods as well.
  21. Hawk, A very unfortunate example of the easily made confusion between Digital and Analogue systems that "innocent" people can make. I think ColinB has given you the simplest solution provided you are okay with taking the body off [which isn't too difficult]. Buy a DCC blanking plug, what ColinB calls a "header" plug, [£3.05 on Ebay] and swap with the DCC decoder plug - you can leave the decoder and speaker, just swap the 8 pin plugs and perhaps wrap a bit of insulation tape around the decoder plug. This assumes that the decoder is not a direct fit. I've got this model but it is boxed up at the moment, I am sure someone else will come along and advise if it is direct or wired with a plug.
  22. DRC, No apology needed but thank you for the clarification. In that case, my recommendation is to oil just as you would with a loco & tender [not too much though], and keep the wheels clean!
  23. DRC, For clarity do you mean oil on the whole axle shaft or oil just to the bearings? I certainly have applied oil to my pin-point axle ends on coaches & wagons and would consider this normal.
  24. JJ, Whilst I am grateful for your attempts to help the advice you give does not work to change an existing account set up with Hornby. As I mentioned in my first post I have sent an enquiry to Hornby and will wait for their response rather than risk messing up my computer and/or access.
  25. 96RAF, That seems more in line with my issues. I know the forum Admin contact detail has been posted many times but could you please advise and I'll send off a request to change my address?
